Full Version: Which GPS Do You Recommend?

Since tomorrow is the biggest shopping day of the year, this evening my mother asked me what I want for Christmas. So I told her, "I want one of those GPS things!".

I've heard such great things about them from my friends, and because I'm always pulling out maps on my way to shoots, I think it'd be a wise investment.

If you own a GPS navagation system and like it...which one did you purchase? Have any recommendations?

I bought a TomTom, but it didn't know any of the 4 locations I needed it for that weekend. My buddies Garmin knew all 4. I took the TomTom back and got the Garmin Nuvi 200W. That one knows everything!

I'm going to get a Garmin Nuvi 200W. I only trust Garmin GPS... I use an aviation model in my airplane and it's saved my life and sanity a few times. Plus, anything named "tom tom" just sounds ridiculous...

Get a garmin Nuvi. The 200 and 200W have a nice set of features, great maps and wont break the bank! Amazon has 'em :-)

I did a bunch of research and ended up buying a similar unit to the one I rented with an Avis rental car a few times: The Garmin Streetpilot c340. I've been VERY pleased with it. It's pretty intuitive, simple to operate and I keep finding cool new features every time I use it. It's a little bit bulkier than some of the cell phone sized units, but it speaks directions to me and is even able to speak most street names with surprising accuracy.

It's found every single thing I've asked it to and if I've ever missed a turn, it has rerouted me to the fastest way to get back on track. Oh and she (my Cecilia) speaks to me in an Australian dialect, though you have a choice of U.S. and British English as well as well as several other languages.

It looks like the Nuvi 200 Trevor mentioned is pretty similar in features at the same price but much smaller...dunno the differences but at first glance the nuvi might be a good bet!

I asked the same question here and got a LOT of great responses.

I ended up buying a Garmin 660. I wanted a large screen since I have a hard time going from "road vision" to "reading vision."

I've had it for about 3 weeks now. Been all over the place with it.

I LOVE IT! Absolutely, hands down, the best business and personal decision I've made all year. The best thing: I had to go way out in Long Island. The total trip time was supposed to be an hour and 15 minutes. The Garmin got me there on time.

On the way home, a yellow caution sign popped up. I pushed it, and it said there was an hour delay at the Outerbridge Crossing and did I want an alternate route. Uh YEAH. So I followed the alternate route to places I never even knew existed only a half hour from my house and I got home in a total of an hour and 20 minutes.

This thing was SO worth it. This is going to be a HUGE thing this Christmas. If ya'll are buying one as a gift, do it sooner rather than later because the stores are going to run out quick!
