Thanks for the welcome, Mark!
I read in your intro that you worked slowly from film to digital. I still use film (one of the few survivors). I have been anti-digi for awhile, but my trip to D.C. where i saw my friend use his Canon and saw David's work, is making me re-think digital. I used to think there was not enough manual control, and that the images would come out looking mechanical. But, technology is proving me wrong, and i'm excited.

So, my question is this:
What camera would you recommend for someone like me who is just considering a switch, and who wants to start taking some professional pictures for art festivals. (But, who doesn't have a great deal of money!)
Please, everyone, feel free to chime in!

For the money go with the Canon rebel at about $950. Or start looking at the 10D, which will move down now that the 20D is taking it's price spot. Seems every Canon shooter on this forum has at one point or another used (or still uses) the 10D so it's not a bad way to start.

10d's are great and I'm sure a lot of people will be getting rid of them now that the 20's have hit the streets... If I were you I'd try and put in the money and get the 20d because it's miles ahead of the other two and it's a camera that you could hold onto for awhile...although I thought that I'd hold onto my D60 for awhile too and I've been through a few cameras since then.

So just get whatever's affordable for you but definitely get something - you'll never regret it! smile.gif

Hi Tara,

If you're interested, I'm looking to get rid of my D60 (formerly David's D60). It's been a good camera. It looks like they're going for around 7 or 800 now.

Let me know!

Hmmm...
Let me look into it. I think i'll go to my local camera store and start asking questions. (i know Nothing about digital cameras).
Currently, i'm forced to start thinking about buying another car instead of a camera...priorities... huh.gif
Don't hang onto it for me, but if you still have it, if it's what i want, and if i decide to buy one, i'll know it's meant to be!!
Thank you for telling me about it!
