Full Version: Showit for my Florist
OpenSourcePhoto > Show Your Stuff! > Wedding Pics
DavidH
I did a wedding last weekend and the florist is one we do not often work together with. She is also a wedding coordinator and potencial client. She asked if she could get a photo of the flowers and I said sure, like I always say. It is a pain to get a photo or e-mail a photo so I usually do nothing. Not good.

Since I am starting on some new marketing ideas this month, and since ShowIt is as easy as sizing a photo and sending it via e-mail, and much more exciting to do, I decided to make a show she could use. Way better than a photo and I think is great for marketing me and shows her my photography in a unique way.

I was not able to go to the Pictage event last month but read Liana Lehman's Be The Brand notes and agree with her to the max! I am going to focus on building relationships this year. I was about to launch a marketing campaign for the hotels here and am re-working my approach after reading her notes. Thanks for the info Liana. I always built my business as a comercial photographer for Nike, Cannon, Westin Hotels with this philosophy but have not consciencely done this for my wedding business.

I look forward to a discussion about this.

Hope that works! You'd be amazed at how easy the code for that spell check algorithm was to write.

Dave -- that's an awesome idea!! I'll bet the florist never expected that!

Ditto on the spell checkr!! I write for a living (well, part of it) but hookd-n-phonix-dnt-wrk-fer-me!!

I'm so stolked your making the moves David!!

It's funny - I may have to repost this somewhere - I just got back from this event tonight and the topic was "branding yourself" lol. I sat next to a gal that does branding for a living and the speaker speaks about it for a living. We were talking about how we do it for everyone else but often are the ones that need to take our own advice the most!!

I went out on a limb (sp??) when I designed my new site and went with some copy I'd consider a bit daring ...stuff kinda out-there I normally wouldn't put up. Personal stuff, ya know?? Well, I had a bride email me from FL last week...found me on the WPJA or something...not sure why she looked in GA but two emails and a phone call later (all within 24 hrs) she booked w/out me meeting her and her one comment that caught my attention was "well, I saw that thing on your site about FSU and I thought 'this gal must be cool' plus I dig ur style"... and also she says "I could have gone with a photog for $2500 but I knew the photography is the most important aspect...." . So that nonsense I put up ...that brief mention of FSU ...and the connection we made from that...is what sold her. Wow. ALL about RELATIONSHIPS!!! Wire a big fat retainer, and she's all booked within days & never met her.

So I guess my $0.02 on this one is don't be afraid to let people know who you are....even the embarrasing stuff... cz that's what the reference was... a silly story that's all. But it got me a 5k job in my old stomping grounds with little to no effort....can't complain. Now if only they were all this easy...

Keep us posted !! Oh...send pics too... I can imagine the florists out there have some pretty outrageous/gorgeous stuff!!! Lots of leis, eh?? (sp? again!?)

okay, I'm a dork and just realized u already had them posted (the pics!!). VERY nice!!!

Btw, if u ever get bored out there shooting and want to trade jobs for a few weeks, let me know!! I'll trade some GA stuff for a few Hawaii gigs thumbsup.gif

Great idea with the slideshow!!! Gonna have to do that for some of our vendors as well!

Liana, looking forward to reading your notes. My wife printed out all 68,000 pages of them in color! smile.gif
