Ok, so I signed up for pictage and I am not happy. I mean the services they offer our stellar, and the service....stellar, but is there anyway around FTP or DEC uploads taking a gajillion hours?????
I tried uploading 300 pics from an engagement session and it took all night!
What do you guys use? FTP, DEC, or just send in a DVD or something?
Let me know how to best leverage my time...thanks!

You can just mail them a CD or DVD with the images on it, but in my mind that takes longer than just pushing the upload button before I go to bed and having it done when I wake up in the morning. But that's just me...

I wish pushing the upload button before going to bed worked for me. Unfortunately I am constantly waking up to find the upload didn't complete because (according to Pictage) the server gets overloaded or something. Anyway, then I have to find where it left off and upload the remainder of that folder and then each folder individually after that! UGH! I HATE the process. When I was with Pictology, all I had to do was upload (no FTP). Never had a single issue and it was a lot faster! Go figure.

I had this same problem when I first signed up...I tried several different ftp methods and someone on here suggested filezilla. it is free and has helped alot. also I complained to comcast alot which didnt help anything, but it never hurts to call them and complain about upload speed. my upload speeds are a steady 40-50kbps lately, but at first they would slow down to 7kbps. then suddenly one day the connection was steady. I dont know what it was. I just started an upload last night around midnight... about 1300 pics took about 9 hours. these files are about 3mb each. I heard someone else had trouble with their first few uploads but after that hurdle its cake. I hope this helps!

How fast is your upload connection? It may be way faster downloading than uploading and you can ask your internet provider if you can get a faster upload.
Remember you are uploading full size images and not web size images like you would in Instantproof or Photorflect or SkookCart or any of the others. That is why those solutions load up your images fasters... with them you are uploading images that are less than a 500k (probably much less) and with Pictage or Collages for that matter, you are loading full res images.
To put things into perspective, if you try to load the same amount the images with Roes it will take longer.
I have cable modem with an upload speed of 512k (download speed is 3mbs) and I can upload 700 8mg images in about 8 hours. I use Transmit 3 FTP (I am on a MAC) and have no problems. I think only once, back in april, that it dropped the upload but it had to do with my router and not because Pictage.
Someone mentioned someplace else that DEC was fastest than FTP program. I haven't tested it yet so I don't know.
My suggestion is to get the fastest upload connection you can, try DEC vs. FTP, and get use to the reality of long uploads if you want a service like Pictage or Collages.

I had never had any problems except DEC being occasionally slow, but last week, I had all kinds of trouble uploading one day and then the next day, I could login to ANY ftp!!! After 3 days, our internet service was out. I contacted Comcast, and reset the modem and router, and BOOM, we had internet and was able to ftp my shoot with flying colors - super fast. I believe all along it was Comcast! We had them out to put hd on a tv and they had to run a new line. I think it somehow messed with out internet service. So, yes, try calling Comcast and reset your modem every so often if you're having problems with speed - slower than normal. That's what I plan to do. We just changed to Comcast's triple bundle package, and I'm still learning the ropes. Overall, I'm happy. Cable IS faster than DSL.
Good luck!
Claire
