Hi All!

I rented a fisheye lens (Sigma 8mm) and I have a question:
How/Can I get the files into a printing format other than a circle? When I download the files to my computer they are cool - but round. Is this just how they'll be or can I have them printed to fit a 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, etc.?

I'd appreciate any help!

Sara,

The 8MM is a circular fisheye which is why your images are apearing the way they do. There is nothing you can do to eliminate the circle other than crop the image. What you are wanting is a diagonal fisheye, such as the Sigma 15mm. This type of fisheye does not create a circle, but does give you the wide angle warp you are probably looking for.

Hope this helps.

Well, that answers that! Thanks so much! It's still cool - and different! Learn something new all the dang time.

you're very welcome.

I did the exact same thing you did so I am happy to pass on what I learned to help you out.

The 15 gives approximately the same effect as the cropped fisheye will because the angle of coverage from corner to corner is 180 degrees in both cases.

Sara, put the 8mm on your Xt instead of the 5d, and you won't get a circle image but rather a nicely distorted image that reaches all 4 corners. You are getting a full circle because your 5d has a full frame sensor. You could also get a 15mm fisheye (canon makes one) and get almost the same effect with that on your 5d as you would get with the 8mm on the XT.
