Full Version: Over sharpening/pixelating of photos
OpenSourcePhoto > GetIt > Showit Effects

I have show it and used it twice, but ecah time I have bene unhappy with the quality of the photos in the slideshow as I show them on my 23" Apple Display. Does anyone else show their slideshows on something this large and not have this over sharpened and pixelated look?
Chris Uglanica
Joel, I think the largest that the pictures will be is 600x400 pixels, so what resolution are you setting your display too?

On my 19" at 1280x1024, I see no difference from my 1024x768 laptop. both look equally good and crisp.

You have an example to show us? A link perhaps? smile.gif

I think Joel is talking about ShowIt Effects.

Joel, as far as the pixelation I think it has to do with the screen saver (if that is what you are using). I've noticed that on both my dual G5 at home and on my new Powerbook.
What's frustrating is the fact that the built in screen savers (ie. Beach) doesn't seems to show this problem. I wonder what compression/file size they use for those files?

But just so you know I've definitely seen this issue and attribute it to the screen saver not ShowIT Effects.

Both David Jay and I have seen the same issue with the screen saver in Tiger. It is a real bummer. Not I use the slideshow feature in the Finder. I select all the images in my favorites folder, right click on one and select slideshow. The quality is much better and you don't have to worry about someone bumping the mouse and turning off the screen saver. You can also use the slideshow in iPhoto. I think this is what DJ does.

I use the slideshow in Iview media and love it.

I think I'm gonna start using the slideshow feature in iPhoto as well. It will automatically do the zooms and pans just like the screen saver, but at much higher quality.

Yea baby! smile.gif This is what we've been doing too because for some reason in OS 10.4 the screensaver looks terrible on my Powerbook. I think my processor is too slow to handle it or something but when I run it outta iPhoto it works pretty well. It's not perfect and sometimes the zooms and pans cut of parts of the picture but at least the pics don't look all pixelated.

I even noticed that the screen saver doesn't do well on my brand new 17".

How do you like the new baby? I am so thinking about getting one... but not sure... How much do they run?

I'm definitely loving it!!! But that's probably because it's a huge contrast from my last 400Mhz G4 laptop.
And the screen is definitely brighter than the last models.

They are selling for $2499, but I'm taking a class at SCC so I got the student price of $2299.
Definitely worth it if you have an older laptop, or none at all!
