Did anyone see the debut of the new reality show for photographers last night If so, what did you think? Was it me, or did the judges seem a little too serious?

I watched it with my wife, but she couldn't watch it all.
My thoughts -
I have a lot to learn about fashion photography. The judges seemed to agree on why pictures were sucky, but they weren't always the reasons I would have given.
Also, there was a definite bias against wedding-style photography - which I think I understand in the context, but they were calling the wedding photographer's shot 'snapshottish' and 'too much of a wedding shot' and told him he'd have to step it up a notch and leave the wedding photography behind. I found that amusing and annoying at the same time

Overall, I enjoyed it and will continue to watch the show. It's a window into a part of photography that I'm unfamiliar with.

I watched it last night and it was interesting. But it IS a reality show, so they will focus on the drama between the people. The people are talented though they have skill. ( except for the model gone photograher. I laughed when she wanted to zoom and didnst realize it was a prime lens. She likes zoom lenses) so they actually picked people that know what tjeir doing. I will continue to watch it.

Why did you find that annoying? He didn't say that it wasn't good, he just said that it wasn't fashion. I don't agree that it was "snapshottish", though.
I think that for the first episode it was decent and it could evolve into being an interesting show. Obviously it's going to have some annoying reality-show moments, but it'll be insightful to see some of the critics of photo buyers and editors, especially since my primary focus is fashion.

I watched it, and I kinda liked it! They did play into the drama of the characters, but you'd expect that. I actually liked the "wedding" style image, but I'm not a fashion shooter, so I don't really understand why it was so bad!

I just did, maybe because I'm human and ever so slightly defensive about what I do for a living

I recorded it on Tivo and fastforwarded through all the drama

I would have liked to see more of the lighting set up, test shots, etc. But I guess that stuff's boring and wouldn't make for good tv. It just seemed weird that they simply grabbed a camera and started firing

I watched it too and my hubby laughed at me how excited I was because it was photography.

I had to laugh at the girl when she asked how to zoom. If I remember, I'll definitely be watching. I just think it's mostly because I love seeing the scenarios they are placed in and the shots they get. Anyone else sit there and go... "this is what I would do"... ?! hahha!

www.mininova.org You'll need to install a program like µTorrent (PC) or Transmission (MAC) to be able to download the files to your computer. At the moment though they only have two files of the program on there to download but they're both the kind that you have to be registered on the trackers site to be able to download them and that's too much hassle because you have to seed files for them

Hopefully someone will upload it so you don't have to be registered anywhere to get it. If it happens, I'll let you know.

I thought it was pretty good - at least it was photography! All reality tv is going to play the drama, its part of it. It was interesting to see it done as a team effort a'la The Apprentice, and not sure I could react and deliver the shots in the timeframes given. Fashion is hardcore and intense, I think it was done appropriately. I liked how the VS model was getting frustrated that she wasnt being directed by the photographer for his vision, a lesson to be learned.

I liked it. I found it quite interesting. I did not watch it all. I was more into doing other things so when the adverts came along, I drifted back to what I had been doing and listened in the background.
I noticed that everybody had been told to dress wildly. Most photographers I know dress either semi-smartly or in jeans and a tee-shirt.
I bet if some guy turned up as a photographer and wore a skirt and fishnets he'd be through until the end of the series just on shock factor

I doubt he'd ever get hired though - lol.

I liked the show. I have always thought of myself as a fashion photographer in training, but realized after watching this that I have A LONG WAY TO GO!!! I do however wish the emphasis was more on technique and photography than all the reality show drama.

I liked it, I love reality tv but rarely get to watch with two little ones.
And I liked the drama, probably because I don't have much in my life (pretty boring) so fun to watch it on tv

We watched it and had fun with seeing photographers struggling to get the shot. I was really surprised by how disorganized the photographers were and how bad their images were! I am not an amazing photographer or anything...by any means, but the images they made were quite weak and I think the judges were right to tell them so. It will be fun to watch as the photographers get better and start to produce images that could actually make fashion spreads!
I thought it was LOL when the judge made the comment about the wedding photography! Fashion needs to sell...wedding images are capturing emotion.
Funny that I blogged about this and have had a huge spike in people getting to my blog

I am not sure that "John" the wedding photographer represents our field very well actually. In the first few minutes introduces himself as being a real gigalo and wanting to party at the wedding with the guests and becoming the center of attention there. His goal is to hopefully "take one of the bridesmaids home with him after the wedding". I am sure his clients love to hear that!
After viewing his website I don't see much in the way of wedding photography. It's a shame since there are so many great wedding photogs on OSP that I am sure would be able to handle the fast paced environment that "The Shot" is putting the photographers in. We do it every weekend , right?
Here is John's website who is representing the "wedding photographer" on The Shot:
John Boone PhotographyPersonally, I think Jason is going to be great...a REAL pro.
