The coolest way is Google Checkout. You can set up "Pay Now" buttons with pre-set amounts or send invoices to clients.

Merchant processing is free until 1/1/2008, so you've got two months to save the ~2% fee.

A real merchant account isn't a bad idea either, but it really depends on your volume and what you'll be using it for as to what type you should get...
