Full Version: Not too happy with the "Look" of the Show- It DVD

I have decided to order the DVD Slideshows for three recent wedding clients and had them shipped to me so I can see what my client is seeing.

To be honest (sorry if I step on anyone's toes) the quality is not at all what I expected. The first issue it the box the folio comes in- it is a faded black and the paper is bubbled up and doesn't look smooth (worse on 2 of the 4- but visable on all four). Then on the side of the box, there are 2 very ugly stickers, one with a product number and one witht he words "hecho en Mexico" both of which are ugly and obvious. When I tried to removed them, the paper over the box ripped. The next issue is the picture quality of the inside picture. Not my idea of a $300 product (that is what my clients are paying for them.) I know it had been mentioned before, but it looks like it is on ink jet printer paper and the images look like junk. The other issue I had was the left side picture was left out of one of the DVD's (but after seeing the ones on the other slideshows- I may remove them anyway- so it really doesn't bother me.) Overall, I am not sure what to do, becasue I really want to offer these to clients and yes I can re-package them in nicer packaging with better prints, but I am paying our cost for the images and the time and money that I have to put into re-pacakging them makes me wonder what I should do.

Any other thoughts or opinions?

Call customer service and ask to remake them?

Well, unfortunately- I just think it is the way they are made? Have you had any done? It was the same for all of them, so that is what I am thinking????

I've heard that from a few people ... I've never really heard anything good about them, which is a bummer since I have a lot of people who have shown interest in buying the DVDs. sad.gif

Maybe they could change it. I just bought some folios from RSS and they are reasonable in price. Maybe if there are enough people that are not happy with the product, they will consider ordering supplies that are a little nicer. And as far as the inside cover- I can either order my own or do something differently.

I would like to feel assured that when my clients open that box their first impression is NICE! not oh well, at least the slideshow it cool. smile.gif

We can definitely change both the printing and the packaging. Honestly, we are shipping 100 dvd's a week and have almost 0 requests for redos. Clients and photographers have been incredibly stoked about them but if you'd like higher quality cases and higher quality prints it shouldn't be a problem.

I do agree that the stickers should be removed. Our manufacturer sent us the boxes with stickers on them which I thought was lame and so that's how they were getting shipped. We'll fix that asap and we have just finished our first batch of 2000 orders so just tell us what sort of DVD packaging you'd like and we'll make it happen. Nicer packaging and prints may mean a slight increase in prices but we'll do our best to keep close to $49 and again let us know if you see packaging you like!

That rocks DJ!! I'm running out the door so I can't give any suggestions 'til later, but thanks for being so open to making them better smile.gif

XOXO, Sarah

Just an idea ...

Maybe once some higher-quality packaging has been sorted out, some fancy close-up product shots of exactly how it arrives (including packaging for mailing, etc.) could be put somewhere? Just to give a clearer idea of what exactly you get from Showit-DVD??

I know there are a couple of photos already but I didn't feel like I saw enough to be confident ...

Thanks DJ for the offer. Hopefully we can offer an alternative to keep the price where it is at. I know that for the folios I buy from RSS, they are about $10 each. If you need and or want any info, please let me know. I am not sure what an easy and affordable way to have better prints would be...but thanks for listening. I am so surprised the overall presentation has not bothered others. I know I am picky, but I even asked my husband and a friend and they both agreed that the stickers were an eyesore and when you take them off the ripped look wasn't any better smile.gif So, again thanks for re-thinking this part of show-it DVD.

Hey Tawnya, I totally agree and originally I actually thought we were removing the stickers before shipping but I guess we weren't so thank you for bringing that up because I hate seeing stickers or tags on anything. I even asked my asst to go around the house and remove all the tags, stickers, etc even from the bottom of candles! lol...

We'll make sure the next round of packaging doesn't have those lame stickers on them and I'd love info on the cases you get from RSS.

We definitely want this to be a win-win and we don't know if people are bothered unless they tell us so I'm always super thankful when things like this come up because it's a super easy fix for the both the cases and the prints.

I got exactly what I expected as far as packaging goes. IMHO, if you want custom packaging, DIY. I didn't expect the packaging to be super nice or fancy. I expected it to be adequate, and that's exactly what it was. It wouldn't offend anyone.

But more importantly: I didn't have to package it myself or do any work. I absolutely LOVE the ShowIt-DVD service! It has saved us HOURS of work on the orders that we've received. We make money without adding any additional steps.

Tawyna: one important distinction...we ordered a sample before selling it to our clients, and based on what I received, we priced it at $99 for the first copy & $79 for the second copy.If our clients want this to be a super cute, perfect DVD, then they can purchase the custom slideshow for $300.

This is where I would strongly disagree...I like the cost price point of $49. I wouldn't want this to go any higher. This allows us to sell it EXACTLY the way we want to: a simple copy of the web slideshow that our clients receive! It is perfect for us!!!

I agree that I do not want to see the price go up- and I ALSO LOVE LOVE LOVE not having to do anything to get the DVD's to a client. I love it when they just order and it is shipped to them. But when the first person that orders them asks, are these sent directly form the company? I know something is up. I don't expect custom cutsie packaging, but what I do expect for the $49 is packaging that I am completely comfortable with sending directly to clients- and with these 4 I had shipped to myself, I am not. smile.gif I too want a simple copy- but I am only selling one slideshow, not samples or anything like that. This is their investment and I want them to be excited about it from the moment they open it.

DJ- I will get the info to you about the folios, and I too would like the cost to be the same. That is something that is important to me as well.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone. Sometimes, I am not sure if I should voice my opinion when it comes t things like this.

Hey Charles smile.gif I'm stoked you're liking the DVD service and I'm always amped when I hear how much time it's saving people. There are few things in life more exciting than making money without doing the work!

I agree that $49 is the price we want to keep it at so don't worry we don't intend to raise the price. Our plan is to insure that the prints our coming out looking beautiful and then possibly offer multiple folio options so we all have a little variety to choose from.

Big time props to you, DJ, for jumping on this. Don't ever let your scalable business growth outpace the level of great customer service (as we've seen so many other big-getting bigger companies fall into the trap of doing). smile.gif

Ditto!

you da man DJ!

I'm really loving this slideshow program and hoping to utilize it to it's outmost for future clients so it's good to know that they will receive nice product, packaging is important to me too. Glad you brought it up Tawnya. Love the fact that clients can just purchase the slideshow direct = more time with my family.

Thanks so much for putting out such great products DJ ––makes our lives just a little easier.

I'm glad I caught this because I haven't sent myslef a copy yet, they have been going directly to customers. I too feel like it should be packaged sufficiantly enough at $50. Letting go is hard enough for me without worring about how it's packaged! laughing.gif I used to get the cd cases from RSS, but recently I started buying the cd case from JLee. Thanks Dan and everyone - It sounds funny but I'm definitely thankful when people share their likes but I'm even more thankful when you tell us what you don't like because that's how we know what to change/improve.

As Rowena mentioned the system is amazing and it really does free us up to spend more time in other areas of our life and business.

Keep letting us know what you like and don't like and we will implement then as soon as possible.... and I'm stoked that our first ideas for the DVD service worked out pretty well as we just reach 1700 Showit-DVD users out of the 6000 Showit Web users. We can all look forward to some sweet new additions to both coming soon.
