I'd love to get a "Blu Domain" type of flash site, but I constantly hear of unhappy customers from that company who have all sorts of trouble, especially email related trouble, and that isn't acceptable to me. Are there any companies that do this type of site at a similar cost but don't force you to host on their servers? I'd love to stick with my hosting company, which has proven to be reliable.
Thanks!

Vertical Software They are doing my current website and they did my portrait biz site too:
LuminaThey have templates and the rates are reasonable. Will let you use your own hosting too.

There's also Getparade.com, and BigFolio - though you do host with both of them. With Parade, at least, I know one of the reasons is that they offer upgrades to their functionality and by hosting with them, you have access to all upgrades without any issues. I've heard few, if any, complaints about either of these companies, even though you host with them. I believe you can back up your data, as well.

blu is good, they have lots of sales on to make their templates affordable - yes they have problems, and yes, sometimes you get wierd responses from them - but all in all, i'm quite happy with them. i have two sites with them and whenever i have any problems, i issue a ticket and within 24 hours its usually rectified, unless its the weekend and programmers do not work on the weekend.
i have thought about going to big folio or livebooks - but for right now, blu is fine for me.

If you want the most sophisticated functionality, you'll need to go with a hosted solution. (Check out Flosites.)
Otherwise, just get a template from someone like Winklet.com.

I think Blu also lets you host elsewhere.

Yep, you can host anywhere you want.
I use Dreamhost.com because I get a great price, solid servers, good service, and best of all, tons of space and bandwidth that GROWS with my business.
Right now they start you at 5 Terabytes of space and bandwidth, and add to it weekly/monthly!
Yep... they do ROCK that hard.
