Well.....

This has many more pictures per page than I usually like, but you kept it very crisp and clean with the design, so the 'clutter' is minimized. Where you did use design elements, you kept them toned down and consistent throughout.

It throws me a little to go from a page with lots of pics to ones with three....like two different people are designing, but the overall product is still nice. How did you accomplish that? 'They' say you shouldn't be able to.......

Overall, I like it. If this fits the couples' personalities, I say keep it. (Some of the shots are beautiful, sweetie!) I can tell you've put a lot of time/effort into this. I'm sure it will be apparent to the couple as well.

I think the large number of images is diluting the impact of some of your better pictures.

Did they request that many?

I also think there is quite a bit of redundancy. Spread 4041, for example.... the lower right hugging shots. I'm guessing that's the son of the bride or groom. I would just use the one where he is hugging his parent, and remove the other one. Yes it's nice that everyone loves the kid, but the parent/son hug will be more poignant if the other one isn't there.

On spread 4647, it looks like practically the same focal length was used for every shot, which results in nothing standing out. Unless you were going for more of a storyboard feel... then disregard. Even so, try some cropping to mix it up on that spread.

I think your exteriors are killer and should be the more prominent somehow. There are too many of these too.

I actually really stopped and looked at 0809, because it wasn't so busy. I think that's my favorite design in the whole book. Although, her expression is a little creepy!

That was pretty honest! Hope that helps.

I like it. In fact, I like it a lot!

Commenting strictly on the design (and not the images, which I assume need to be in the book), I really like the way you efficiently loaded so many pics into a clean, symmetrical, fairly consistent design theme. It is structured pretty well.

There are three spreads I can comment on:

1819 is the only spread using the black borders (?). I would change the layout to match another spread

5051 and 5455 are the only two spreads to use that color scheme, and their placement at the end of the book is inconsistent with the total design.

Other than that, I believe you did an excellent job. I especially like the opening page. The text and placements are very pleasing!

I like it a lot.
There are quite a bit of images in it but I assume that I because they requested them.
I wanted to comment on the images of the bride and groom by themselves....AMAZING! Some of those veil shots are to die for! Beautiful

I agree, too many images per page. But those images are great! Do you pre design your albums, or do you let the bride pick the images?

I would let the couple see it themselves and decide. I really like it. They are more interested in the memories than you so I say keep it just like it is. I love it and it's way better than the one our photographer did for our wedding. If it was mine I would cry! Good work!

Thanks for the honest feedback guys - I really appreciate it.

The B&G have already seen this and they LOVE it.
(Yes, I pre-design my books)

However, the book is bigger than they can afford, so we are working on weeding out some spreads in order to fit their budget.

Ultimately, as we all know, the client is the boss and they decide what is good or not. But they went nuts when they saw it.

I was more or less trying to see how my peers here on OSP felt about the design work I have done. As there seems to be so many threads of pure 'praise' with little constructive criticism I tend to avoid posting my work for fear that it won't get ripped apart. I am confident in my images and style but am always looking to improve. And I am so thankful for the candid and non-sugar coated responses of those who were willing to rip apart my design.

Ginger, you mentioned 'they'... and I honestly cannot answer your question. I have found that if I just design it (whatever it is) and if I like it overall, most people will like it... clients of course usually LOVE it.

Of all my pre-designs that I have done, I have yet to have a client NOT love the work I did for them (I am not bragging btw). That is the ultimate payment I think. But again, I want to keep growing and needed the honest feedback from you all here on OSP.

You guys are great and again, I thank you for your feedback!

ps. Matt, I agree on #0809 it is one of my favs too.

I would echo what other people have said about the amount of images, and the redundancy of some images. Esp. if its a predesign; I think the beauty of predesign is showing the client how much impact the images can have if they are limited to just the best of the best. I do like how you've dealt with the multi image pages (clean design), but I think there should be less of them in the book overall, as it dilutes the impact of the images within them.

Particularly the getting ready images could be easily condensed to 2-4 images per spread (for example, you dont need to have a pic of her having her lipstick done, and a pic of her having her eyes done--just one makeup pic is fine). When you start a book with a huge collage like that, it loses momentum from the start-- IMO it's better to save the big collages for the reception and/or other places well within the body of the book.

Im not sure if this falls under "design" c/c that you specifically asked for, but I think choosing which images go where and how many of them is a big part of design skill, so I thought I would mention it.

Going along with that theme, there is one other spread I wanted to comment on--I think its 49-50 (where you have a large image on the right of them looking at the camera). I thought this was great...until I saw the next page smile.gif ...there are about 3-4 images on that page that IMO have SO much more impact than the one of them looking at the camera. This may be a style thing and you may want to put more emph. on obviously posed shots, so if that is the case ignore this--but the bride looks so much prettier and the emotional and storytelling impact is so much greater in the images where they are just interacting w/ each other. I would stick to those for your super-big images and let the "looking at camera" shots take a backseat.

Hope this helps. Lauren

first off, your work is awesome. the veil shots and the shot with the cross are stunning. as far as the layout, i like the flow, although i'm on the less is more bus. in my experience the clients always like the albums with more images.

Yes- I tend to like fewer images per page, but I have to say the last several pages definitely are my favorites- they are fantastic!
