Hi All!

Lately my 20D has been freezing up maybe once a shoot. No error message. Just won't take the pic and when I turn it off, nothing happens on the screen.... the only way to fix it is to take the battery out and put it back in and wha-la... it works just fine.

So what is happening... does this mean my baby is about to go to camera heaven? or something else?

THANK YOU!

anyone?

I had something simliar happen on a 10D (I now use that camera as a backup and shoot with my 20D as my main and hasn't happened to me yet).

When it happened to me it was a sign that my shutter was going and had to be replaced. Not sure if this is what is happening to you, but the repair for me was something like $300 and I got it back in 3 weeks.

Do you have a camera store around you that does repairs that you trust? I'd have them take a look if I were you.

Chelsea,

Before you throw the towel in, try the basic cleaning of all the Copper to Copper contacts.

Clean the battery contacts
In camera Battery contacts
Lens contacts
Where lens meets Camera contacts.

A Q tip with some kinda cleaning solution, I usually use the stuff I clean my glass with.

I think the 20D shutter is only rated to 50,000. I also think that it can go well over that if proper maintanance is done.

Keep your nose and your Cooper clean ! . laughing.gif

Are you using a battery grip? I have used a 20d that froze up when the battery grip was a little loose. Check the contacts on the grip and make sure it's connected securely.

dumb question I am sure, but how do you check the number of clicks? and no, I don't have a battery grip.

The only way is to send it to Canon, thats what they told me on the phone. The total # of releases will be on the processor. I guess only Canon techs, or a camera tech will know.

Chelsea - sounds like a battery issue. Try sticking a small piece of paper between the inside of the chamber and the outside and close the opening on it. Trust me, it works! smile.gif
