Full Version: Pre set white balance
OpenSourcePhoto > YA wanna FIGHT! > RAW vs. JPEG

I recently began shooting raw. I have to say that I love the way light room works so smoothly with color correction and exposure manipulation. I used to always use a pre set white balance with a gray card for Jpegs. Will a pre set white balance work for Raw format the same as it does for Jpegs (maybe it will save me some time)?

Yes, it will work the same. When I shot jpeg, I always custom white balanced, because my auto white balance was terrible. Now that I shoot raw, I custom white balance sometimes, but not all the time. If I am going to be shooting a lot in the same light, I will take the time to custom white balance. But, if I have changing light conditions in a fast paced environment, I don't take the time. I'll just do it afterwards. It is nice when it is right on from the start though.
