Full Version: New Client Interface... FINALLY!!

I've been waiting a year for this new interface, and it's finally here!!!! I wasn't intially able to view it on Firefox 1.0.4, but when I updated to the latest version, everything loaded QUICKLY and EASILY!!

The new interface is much more consistent with what clients are already used to experiencing on Kodak Gallery or Shutterfly - with all of the photo editing controls up front instead of in the shopping cart. It offers live previews on crops, toning, and borders, as well as a great zoom tool! It's much easier to navigate with a simple list of categories and folders instead of 101 viewing options on the left and the right and the overall appearance is one that looks sleek and fashionable rather than chunky and cheesy. I think Pictage users are going to have some really nice boosts in their holiday sales this year just from the ease of this new interface!! It's so nice to be with a company who LISTENS and makes things happen.... even if it takes a while for them to get it right... it definitely pays off in the end!!

I dont believe its retro to all events yet. It gets applied to newly uploaded events. Of course, I could be wrong.

Here's a shoot that should be available in the new format...

A customer service rep at Pictage told me that it's being phased in to new events... not every new event gets the new interface but they expect that by end of year, all new events will.

It's a good thing, too... I'm really not a fan of the old one.
Anne
were you able to view the new interface with my link above?
RyanEstes
Yup! I like it.

Yeah, that looks really cool! I just signed up with Pictage last week and so far all the galleries I've uploaded have been the old interface. Bummer sad.gif

The spinny thing just keeps on spinning and nothing comes up. Too many people trying to access it?

It's working on Firefox and maybe some other PC browsers so if you open it in Safari for example it'll still show the old one.

What browser/version are you using? That happened to me when I had the old firefox.. I had to update to the latest version for it to work properly... I've already made issue with Pictage about this.

I'm using the latest Firefox (2.0.0.7). It's not working with it. But I switched to IE 7 and it does work. Strange.

Doesn't work for IE here.

We logged into some of our old galleries this past weekend and saw that the new interface had been applied to them and it seriously rocks! I know that Pictage is phasing eveybody in an hopes to be done in December. Somehow we got lucky and were upgraded early. Yay!

Yes, the interface is very nice indeed.

I love it! Much sharper and great looking! High hopes!

Anne, thanks for supplying the link to an event with the new client interface!

It looks great and very promising, although I'm disappointed that there are so many browser issues. That's not meant to be a critique of Pictage as much as a commentary on the entire browser situation in general.

I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.8 and I can access the event to get a feel for the new interface's general layout; however, the photos won't display. No way... gallery, individual photo or slideshow. Very frustrating! If I use IE (version 6), then everything appears to work fine. Some folks seem to encounter different symptoms.

This has to be a nightmare for application developers nowadays. I mean... some stuff works with one browser -- but not another??? wacko.gif

The whole premise years ago when graphical user interfaces were the big craze was to free up the application developer from the low-level worries of stuff going on at the client's display terminal. But somewhere along the line, things have gotten off track and muddied up... among IE, Netscape, Firefox, Safari -- not to mention special browser versions from various ISPs.

So now fancy applications can't work consistently with their designed functionality. And the end-result is poor client experience smashpc.gif ... which ultimately translates into lost sales. mad.gif

It's really ashame, because the new Pictage interface looks to be really slick. I hope they can work through all the various browser issues. Until then, it just doesn't pay to have too many new, fancy features... no matter how "cool" things appear.

I don't envy the application developers on this one.
