I've really had it with Canon!

This past year I've been trying to shoot with a bracket and to do it I need an off shoe 2 cord for my 580EX. Since I've had it I've broken 8 of these, once two in one wedding. For me its the stupid plastic shoe edges that fit into the bracket.

I bought yet another one two weeks ago, the salesperson told me this one was better as it had more metal where the other had plastic. Well I bought it then discovered this had plastic at the place where I had had problems before, and sure enough those edges wore down and broke at another wedding. $100 for 2 days out. Uggh.

And I'm not throwing my cords around either.

Anyone else having this? In the meantime I'm trying a Better Bounce Card, then caved and ordered a Whale Tail..Sigh.

the strobist website talked about lots of people have problems with the cord.

I think the only way around it is pocketwizards.

I screw my OCSC2 directly to my Stroboframe and bypass using the clamp altogether. I have never broken one that way.

One thing we learned a while back about the OCSC2 is never ever leave the flash or the OCSC2 attached while travelling. the vibration kills the flashes and the cords. We went from using one cord every two weeks, to two cords per season.

I have heard the OCE3 is less prone to breaking.

Does anyone know if that's true?

Hi Scott,

Actually the last one I got was the OSC3. It's more metal, but though it has more metal the little flimsy "arms" that fit into the bracket are still plastic, and what I broke on that and pretty much all the other cords.

Don't get me wrong I realize all parts will break sooner or later, but I think I've spent way too much on too many.
