Full Version: Before and After

Gino over on DWC has a running thread called Before and After. What people do is post unprocessed out of the camera shot followed by the photo after some photoshop work. They then tell the general steps which they performed to produce the photos. It is one of my favorite threads over there. After seeing some recent awesome shots by DJ, Tim, Alisha, Alan, Chris, Nathan (and pretty much everyone else who posted recently), I was wondering how they produced the final images. That gave me the idea to try and start a thread like that over here.

Anyone game?
Chris Uglanica
I'm game, since you mentioned my name. huh.gif Not sure I belong in the same class as the others you mentioned, but I'll take that as a very serious compliment on the one shot you got to see.

Here's my shot I had posted up on DWC.

Pictures were taken at 9:27pm on August 5th, 2005. Shot with availalbe light on a mildly cloudy evening.

Top shot is straight out of RAW with no corrections.
Middle shot is what I came out of RAW with after doing some corrections.
Bottom is after some burning, masking, Selective USM and then noiseware to clean it all up. LOVE noiseware by the way.

Killer Shot Chris!

Excellent Chris. Actually I was referring to Chris Humphreys from his post today, but your photo certainly belongs with the rest. I remember this one over on DWC. I actually took your before photo and tried to reproduce your after photo and didn't even come close. You have the magic photoshop touch! Your after shot is seriously AMAZING!

See everyone -- isn't this fun and educational! More more more!!!!

If you don't have a tool like Noise Ninja (http://www.picturecode.com/) , get it -- it rocks for those high ISO shots. There are several noiseware tools. I use Noise Ninja and love it.

I picked your name for the exact shot you just posted about. It rocks! Thanks for the info. Gonna try it myself now.

I guess I am going to have to mention some more names. It works! Hmm.. this could get long -- so anyones name that begins with A-Z -- post some before and after shots! tongue.gif

Just be careful of that midnight sepia action. You can so over use it! LOL! But it's perfect for getting like to pop or 'sparkle'.
I had a feeling this is the image you wanted to know about! HEHE!
THANKS!

Wow! Those are fantastic! The key is that they started as great shots and were made into excellent shots!

Props to you both!

Alisha,

Noiseware is from Imagenomic. It's like Noise Ninja, but I found it to be easier to use, and much more intuitive, personally.

DJ, thank you for the kudos.

Jim....Ahhhh....*blush*....Don't I feel sheepish then. haha.

Ok since i'm bored, here is one more just cause! smile.gif

I don't remember the setting on my camera on this one. I think it was custom white balance like it matters. haha.

Here is a combo Brody showed me that I like:

Auto levels. Brody's custom 'Auto Lomo 100 pixel's he calls it. Kubota B and W lab, hand coloring, then a soft light overlay on top of it all.

This is an EXCELLENT topic Jim...thanks for getting 'er started! (Now I just have to figure out what *heck* language everyone is speaking!!! LOL... laughing.gif )

(I have a long way to go in PS...)

heyall. GREAT thread, btw. This is probably my new fav; way to go! Obviously, I don't have any wedding photos, but it doesn't mean I don't edit. Here's one from a recent shoot. Basically, (and I think it'd be more effective for us to try and be specific with settings instead of just which actions/filters we used, numbers of levels, etc.) I just did a bit of dodging, burning, cloning, cutting/pasting, etc to get these results... see below

Hi all, sometimes I retourn back here to read your posts.

I'm not a wedding pro, I'm not a photographer, and sometimes this cause wrong pictures when I shot, but.. may I show you some stuff??

I hope you will give me interesting points of view about the work!

Sometimes I only retouch a picture improving the colors, using levels, curves and other stuff. I like to open a picture and give it a new suggesting shot, changing colors, also.

I added two additional images on my blog, if you want to see more (or do you prefer to have them posted here?).

Have a nice day!
