Full Version: Time Sorting Your Images...

Hey guys, I'm thinking of going to a dedicated 2 camera system of shooting (so I'm not switching lenses as much.)

For those of you who do that, how do you time sort your images. I don't understand why it doesn't just let me do in Photoshop CS. (maybe CS2 does?) If so, what programs besides CS2 let you time sort your images....

Thanks guys....
Alisha
Hey buddy,
I'm on a PC between Michelle and I and our 4 cameras time sorting is a must anymore.
I stick them all in a folder and then right click anywhere on a white space and then select -sort by modify-. Then it comes in Photoshop like that. That helps! smile.gif However, most of the time I forget to check my time stamp before hand.ughh!

As long as you time sync your cameras, you should be able to do it fairly easily. Just sort by modified date. However, most programs will give a new modified date when the images are modified again (like autorotate)... so that'll mess you up.

I use ACDsee 7, but it's only for windows. Once I've downloaded all the images, I reset the modified date to the EXIF date, sort by that date, and then rename.

iView on the Mac (and PC). Consolodate in 1 folder, load in iView and sort by "capture date". Then rename all of the files so they stay in that order when sorted by filename (we do an incremental [0001.jpg, 0002.jpg] + a date [051003_0001.jpg, 051003_0002.jpg]).

Actually, you don't need to consolidate into one folder. It'll rename across several folders. This is handy if some of the files have the same name. After they're renamed, you can easily put them all into one folder, but do it within MediaPro, so it can keep track of them.

haha... my sales pitch for raw and cs2... just buy cs2 and go for it. It's worth the upgrade cost and it'll take all of your headaches from multiple programs and consolidate to one

In WinXP, you can go into the folder your images are in, right click on the column tabs, and then activate "Date Picture Taken" and sort that way, if you've sync'd your cams.

I use CS2 Chris and sort by Date Created in Bridge.

Perhaps the question I should have asked is there an easy FREE way for me to do this on my Powerbook.... biggrin.gif

Does anyone know, can iView Media time sort the images? I'd love to save the extra $150 to not get the "pro" version if I don't need it. All I really need is just to time sort the images. Nothing else too fancy.

Is the "pro" version really worth it?

I hire a team of Malyasian children to print and put into stacks all my photos. Seems to work great so far... plus, relatively little cost and no upgrades!! ohmy.gif

The regular iView doesn't time sort unfortunately.... Just to clarify about CS2 and the Bridge.... You CAN time sort, and you should do so by "date created" and not "date modified."

I am also a minister besides shooting weddings. I was officiatinng a wedding for a couple from California and the photographer was the brides brother. He also happens to be a photographer in Washington DC and shoots for the Pentagon. Did most of the 911 coverage.

All this to say he turned me on to a very reasonable software that rocks for sorting images. It is called Photo Mechanic. You can change viewing from time captured to date modified to file name on the fly and it is fast. You can tag images and select the tagged images then copy them or save them to a new folder. Maybe sometime I will share my work flow. I can edit and adjutst a wedding with 1,000 images in under an hour with great results.

Give it a try.

Do they do RAW conversions too? Bookkeeping? Dishes? If so, please have them call me!
