Currently I am shooting with a 5D and 30D. With a backup Nikon D50. I have recently began shooting with primes going away with my 24-70 as my workhorse. Most of the time I am switching between the 50 1.4 and 24 1.4 as the main lens, but have the 30D with a 70-200. Just rented a 85 1.2 as I have heard the lens is a dream. Curious to see what you guys mainly shoot with?

I have basically the same cameras.
Workhorse is the 24-70. I love putting the 85 1.2 on a crop sensor camera for something less obtrusive (vs. the 70-200) for the getting ready stuff. Depending on the venue I never even use the 70-200 until I do night sessions during the reception. For the B+G session and for the reception the 24-70 and 85 1.2 get switched between on the 5D.
The 24 1.4 is an awesome reception lens, wish I had one.

Sounds like you've got a great setup! I use the 24 1.4 and 50 1.4 all the time with my 5D. I usually have either the 100mm macro or the 70-200 on my other body (MkIIn). My next lens purchase will be a 16-35mm f2.8 (II)

I'm revamping to shoot al(most) primes next year. 5d with 24 1.4 and 85 1.8 will be my main setup with a little assist with a 135 2.0 and a 16-35 (the perfect dancefloor lens on a 5d). I also have a 35 2, 50 1.4 and 70-200 2.8 (which will only get pulled out for the ceremony on a crop camera).

35 f/1.4L on one 5D, and an 85 f/1.2L on the other 5D. I rarely use anything else, but the poor neglected 70-200 and 17-40 come out sometimes smile.gif

I'm with Colin...though my less obtrustive prime of choice is the 135 2.0. 24-70 is also my workhorse. If I could only have 2 lenses at a wedding they would be the 24-70 and the 135.

the only lenses i use are 50 1.4, 17-55IS, 135L 2.0

Wow, you guys have some nice primes!!

I shoot dual 30D's with a 70-200/2.8 hanging off my shoulder and, more often than not, a 17-55/2.8IS around my neck (tho I swap this out with a 10-22, 50/1.4, 85/1.8 or 90/2.8 macro as needed).

I'd love to have a wider prime, and I'd love it to be an L, but time will tell. Meanwhile my zoom trio works a treat ;-)

Colin, Can you expound on why the 24 1.4 would be an awesome reception lens?

a 16-35 (the perfect dancefloor lens on a 5d).

Cory, I'd like to know why you think the 16-35 is perfect for the dancefloor.

I'm looking into my next lens that's why I'm asking. I rented the 50 1.2 recently and really loved it for the getting ready shots (that's where I really noticed the diff.) but want
a lens that can do double or triple duty since I like to have a minimal amount of arsenal.

I basically shoot with 24-70, 70-200, 85 1.8. I don't know how it's possible to not shoot with a 70-200 during the ceremony. I wish I didn't have to lug around that beast all the time but it seems like a must for me. Just rambling hehe

Hi Rowena,
I am going to use the 16-35 next year. This year I'm using the croppish equivalent of the 12-24. On the dancefloor, I like to get close and be on the dancefloor to capture the energy.
