It's so pretty!

I can't really play with it yet though, I'm trying to figure out how to hook it to my eMac with a firewire and get the emac to come up as an external drive so I can transfer some stuff. I don't want to use the setup assistant's version of file transfer (hold down the 't' key on emac and restart) because you can't pick and choose what to transfer... plus I gave that version a shot last night, it took 4 hours, and froze with 49 minutes remaining. Boo!!! Anyone have any ideas?

I just want to transfer some pictures, music and one or two apps. Not the entire application folder, or the entire documents folder.

Hey Megan! smile.gif

Congrats on your purchase! That's awesome! smile.gif

Not sure how to make that transfer the way you're doing it, but if you have an extra hard drive that's probably the easiest way to do it. Just transfer 'em that way. It might take a little while, but it's pretty straightforward.

Megan -
I believe you do it this way- called Target Disk Mode

To use FireWire target disk mode
  1. Make sure that the target computer is turned off. If you are using a PowerBook or iBook as the target computer, you should also plug in its AC power adapter.
  2. Use a FireWire cable (6-pin to 6-pin) to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer does not need to be turned off.
  3. Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Then restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
  4. When you are finished copying files, drag the target computer's hard disk icon to the Trash or select Put Away from the File menu (Mac OS 9) or Eject from the File menu (Mac OS X).
  5. Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
  6. Unplug the FireWire cable.

yay for your new MBP! I just ordered two... one for my dad and one for his wife, had 'em both set up in about 10 minutes :-)

Yep, target disk mode will be the way for you to transfer stuff without using setup assistant's version. have fun!!!

Well aren't you great! I still let mine sit on my desk as I have yet had time to play with it- the only use it has gotten is the 3 wedding slideshows I have done at the receptions. And will be used again this weekend for the two I have smile.gif !

I wish you lived closer you could help me get mine up and running.

If it weren't for my brother, mine would probably still be in its box! smile.gif

Thanks everyone! Especially the step-by-step from Enoch! Much appreciated.
I didn't re-try the 'restart while holding down t' cause I figured it'd do the same thing as during the setup assistant... I will try it tonight.

I'm so excited, and it's so hard to resist playing with it, but I can't waste time, I really need to be working on my post for the weddings. And also not playing on osp... oh well, at least this post was educational! smile.gif

This is my first laptop ever, so I'm pretty psyched about it!

Ha ha, maybe it should be 'welcome to the world of all things laptop' smile.gif I'm already a loyal mac user, wouldn't think about switchin.

Anyway, just came back to write down the directions to try the transfer tonight before going to bed... I can't believe I haven't had time over the past few days to play with my new baby!
