So after a lot of consideration I finally purchased a lens for my new Canon 30D. I ordered a new Tamron for Canon 17-50 mm f/2.8. I ordered it online from buydig.com... They were the lowest price I could find for a new lens. AND BELIEVE ME I LOOKED. They even ship for free. Check them out in the future if you haven't yet. good choice. you'll still get some good wide angle use out of it with the 1.6 crop factor and you've got some zoom to play with.

+1 on the 2.8. nothin worse than having to deal with variable apertures like on an intro kit lens.
