What superhero powers would you like to have?
Fletcher
September 30 2005, 09:25 AM
SO many to choose from! Hmmm....flying would be pretty dang cool...what it must be like to cruise through river canyons and rugged mountains. Of course with FAA regulations, hijacking risks and flight plan logs...it might be less glamorous than one might think.

As a kid I was always pretty obsessed with the idea of x-ray vision...
Or even better, what if you could see straight into peoples heads! That could have its great moments.
I think all super powers would have their downsides though...
David, are you ever going to answer any of these questions?

...did I miss one?
I would definitely choose being invisible.

Amber is right...lots of downsides. I imagine a floating camera and Treo would freak people out at the weddings you shoot...probably bad for business.

MeatVision!!!....ok, blame that on the fact that I sometimes get hooked on my kid's cartoons like "The Fairly Odd Parents."
Hmmm....this is really a hard one. Maybe have the power to make people see the positive aspect of things?
"Aww...my dog just died."

I think I'd be happy if I could just open a new CD or DVD without having to shred the packaging to thousands of tiny pieces (or break a nail).

Wait, would that really be a super-hero power???

September 30 2005, 11:39 AM
Okay, another fairy power then...
you know all of those kids' toys that have like 1.27 million little twisty wires to keep them firmly in the packaging? (C'mon, Frank, I'm sure YOU know about this...and other parents...you KNOW what I'm talking about!) I'd like a superhero power that allows me to pull the child's toy from the box and have all of the superfluous restraint materials just fall away suddenly. Do you know how much pressure that would relieve? I mean...your kid is standing there like "what's the dang deal dad? I want to play with this action figure NOW! Why are you having so much trouble with the packaging?"
Okay, for those of you who can't relate...I'll put it into more relative terms...
So that new 70-200 IS lens shows up and, after you kiss the UPS driver, imagine your frustration and angst if Canon used so much packaging materials that it would take over 20 minutes just to get that lens out of the box before you can plop it on your camera to play with it????

OH YES BROTHER!!!!!!! I cant relate to the Toys..
I wish they made the toys inside as well as the meterial they pack it in.
They shoudl print directions on the outside of the box just to open it!
I wish I knew that feeling of getting the new lens though..
Loved your analogy with the toys.. lol

September 30 2005, 11:57 AM
HaHa I can totally relate Dan. The strange thing is because of my pack rat photo sense that I might need these super long twist ties for something in the future I have to save all of them. Of course they usually end up someplace I can't remember where but... Hey I was thinking about you because new products usually come out right after I buy them too. At least we didn't get our Mark II's yet.
Oh and Linda, that is fairy funny.
I dread opening new cds or dvds too. The worst is the last piecs of sticky tape that runs along the side. Don't you love it when you peel it off and the sticky stuff stays on the cd cover? There has got to be a better way...

There's a trick to that. You take the CD cover off by unhinging it on the side opposite the sticky strip (be careful not to break the plastic), then you hold on to the cover in one hand and the case in the other hand (still joined by the sticky strip), and peel the strip off one side just like pulling tape off of something. Make sense? Maybe I should make a flash movie and post it.

But anyway, you can take it all off in one piece that way!

I'm going to say that I would not choose any power for myself because I am so moody! I would definately use if for bad things when I was mad and then regret it.
I woulc choose to be a sidekick so I could be a helper and just wear a cool outfit. No bright colored underwear, though. Somthing like the Avengers.
Reminds me, I used to collect illustrated kid's books when I was in art school and I've been wanting this book for a while. Stopped and picked it up on a whim. Anybody want THIS power????

I once saw an episode of the twilight zone about this. There was a library with a book of each persons life. The new worker girl took her book and started whiting out certain things and replacing them with other events. But it changed everyone elses life too. I think her sister died in an accident so she tried to go and white that out and change it...it was a mess.

for sure..... flying! i just woke up (9:10am) from a dream of flying following some car down a country road about 100 feet up. i was thinking... 'man, im really doing this!' i even circled in for a landing.
however, the best superpower of all would be to have PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY. that way i would really know everything i ever read and if i could hook a printer up to my brain, i could print every photo i ever missed.

wait, if I stopped time, how would I know when 20 seconds was up? I might end up stopping time for a thousand years and not know it and everyone would die when I started it up again and people would never see thier children grow up.......

i don't really believe in the detah penalty but i think i would still want the power to make producers of spam spontaneously combust. the world would love me for this. just imagine, instead of hitting the "report spam" button or developing a filter in your email program you could just send me a note and *poof* the problem is gone. after a few spammer combustions i think the world wide level of spam would go down
