I know there are a lot of people here that use PickPic. What hosting companies are you guys using?

Thanks!

We run Skooks but we're on Westhost. It's a "Virtual Private Server", not one of those shared hosts where your performance can degrade if other users run a lot of stuff on their sites. We left PowWeb for that exact reason...

If you decide to sign up with them would you mind letting them know you were referred by AgnesLopez.com? 04.gif

I am in the process of leaving Powweb. In addition to the issue you mentioned they only offer shared SSL certificates which I guess also can slow things down. Very frustrated. If I end up going with Westhost I'll drop your name. Thanks for the reply!

Smart decision. Powweb used to be good until they were bought out. Now the MySQL server is so slow there's almost no point in even running a database (blog, cart, etc)...

I highly recommend going with a virtual private server solution like Westhost. You can get a GoDaddy Turbo SSL certificate for like $15 and use it with your Westhost PickPic account. Jules just did that.

Yeah. Westhost is great. My old html site was there and I NEVER had any issues. Now my PickPic site is there and it's great.

You guys don't have any issue with the amount of storage you get at Westhost? Their business plans come with 10 to 20 GB of storage as compared to a comparably priced Lunarpages package which includes unlimited storage for $21.95/month.

I am loving DigiLabs. They are affordable and simple to use. Personalized customer service/help. They do my printing and ship directly to my customers. You can also have them host and handle point of sale and direct them to have your photos printed at a lab of your choice. Low yearly fee and 17% commission...no problems!

Don't fall for the "Unlimited" storage trick. That means it's a shared host and they are overselling their space. I suspect that if you actually started uploading massive amounts of data they'd suspend your account.

$21.95 a month is steep too. I think we paid $13/month (x24 months at once).

We have dozens of wedding and other galleries in our site and they work out to about 2 GB (20-30MB per gallery).

The important thing is that our site is reliable, up, and fast. You can always add on more storage -- but you'll likely find that you didn't need it anyway!

Decided to go with Westhost. I've only heard good things about them here and other places. We may have to start limiting the time our galleries are posted to a shorter time period, but at least I know they will be up, functional and fast.

Thanks for your help Damon & Jules. Oh yeah, I told Westhost you referred us, Damon

I think you'll be very happy... both with PickPic and Westhost. We've been using the combo since June of this year and are very pleased.

All our new event images are posted to our PickPic gallery now, and we couldn't be more pleased with the process. There are folks who will make order fulfillment sound like it's the dearth of all activities, but we haven't found it to be burdensome in the least. True... it may not be the most glamorous part of the business, but we love the fact that we have a MUCH better handle on our costs, and WE control whatever email correspondences our clients see.

Great to hear. We should be up and running by the end of the week. I can not wait! We've been doing our own fulfillment anyway so we're just improving the order process with Pickpic.
