Easy as 1-2-3:

1. Download the trial version of PS CS3 from Adobe's site and install.

2. Enter your serial number & activate

3. Have a glass of wine in celebration!

Gina, what did you get? Desktop, laptop? How about some of the specs?
I'm just about ready to get a mac book pro, I think. I've got an emac that's over 5 years old, and it's time for more storage, a newer OS, and all that. I'm just a little nervous about having everything on a laptop- I've never had one before!

I don't think it's quite so easy... the trial version of CS3 on the Adobe website is the extended version, so those of us with plain ol' CS3 would have to upgrade to do that. I had to call Adobe's customer service, then they sent me a form that I had to sign and fax back saying that I would destroy the Windows version, then they MAILED me the Mac version. I believe it was a different serial # as well. Pain in the butt, but worth it in the end. smile.gif

It also cost like five bucks for shipping. It really wasn't a hassle at all...especially now that I have a mac and pc version of Shop.

I promise I will destroy it someday...when I updgrade.

So you'll hook your macbook to the non-glossy display and work that way?
I will probably just get a non-glossy to start with. I haven't really looked into it though.
What kind of external hard drive do you have?

I stand corrected!

Sorry about the false confidence. huh.gif

i don't understand why, if you can leagally install the software on more than one of your OWN computers, that you have to destroy something. if i had 2 pc's i'd just install it. if i had 2 macs, i'd just install it. what's the big deal if you have a mac and a pc? if they are your machines and you use them both, why can't you install it on both.

just a little rant.

BTW - just installed cs3 - WOW!
super.

They are not really the same software. You can't run the same version on both Mac and PC (unless you are running an Intel Mac, but then you have to use software like Parallels). Completely different OS's and processors.

But I do understand your point.

I don't feel guilty. When Adobe goes to having all their apps online...that's going to be a sad day for us.

Why? Do you still have your PC? Purchase the upgrade then do the swap, which is actually called a Cross Platform Upgrade.

In fact, you really don't need to have the PC. Purchase the upgrade to CS3 (which you will want anyway ... it's awesome!), then get Cross Platform Upgrade. It only costs about $5.

It does irritate me that Adobe couldn't make this kind of suggestion to you.

Gina,
Adobe should send you the disks for CS2 and transfer it if you have the windows version.

okay. let me set things straight. first of all, the rumors about just using your PC serial number on photoshop on your new mac simply won't work. what you need is a cross platform upgrade, where adobe sends you a brand new set of software for mac, and you agree to destroy your existing software. HOWEVER, since you've got CS2, you will have to upgrade that to CS3. you most likely have the CS2 premium suite... right? if so, it will cost you like $399 to get the CS3 design standard suite. in the process of doing so, you'll make sure to get the mac version, which counts as your cross platform upgrade (cross platform upgrades are done for free through adobe, as long as they are within the same version. moving up a version will always cost $$$... it makes sense)

don't expect it to be easy. adobe takes a long time to get things done. at least they did when i did this a few months ago when CS3 was being released. maybe things have calmed down over there and they can ship it to you ASAP.

good luck!
