Hi, I am Leah from Texas, although I am not a Texan.
I have been trying to come up with something really witty for my first ever post but I got nothing!
I entered my first photo contest (model horses, dont ask...) when I was 12 and have been happily snapping away ever since. I joined the army to be a photo and layout specialist when I was 18, but my recruiter some how convinced me that I really wanted to be a mechanic. So after 6 years of turning wrenches I left the army(honorable discharge-of course!) and started school working toward a bachelor in photography. After two years of developer smelling hands, squinty-I just came out of the dark room eyes, and more then I care to know about college level math I quit school(I really just wanted to learn Photoshop and use my digital camera!) to be a teacher/web designer/professional canine obediance instructor(why? I am not sure. I have no recruiter to blame!). Are people still reading this? I could defiantly look back and kick myself for wasted time and poor choices but instead I am going to FINALLY jump into what has been my love for almost 20 years(did I just give away my age?) If you are still reading, Thanks! I look forward to plenty of posts (and the overuse of parantheses) and getting to know ya'll!

Welcome, Leah. And, you know, lots of people, here -- me included -- love using parentheses, commas, and dashes to interject things in the middle of sentences (and often just to see if people can follow my train of thought), so don't worry about it.

Have fun and post up some images.

Hi! Wow, I didn't think people would read this, let alone write back so quick. I am in the small and humble town of Willis, about 40 miles north of Houston.

Too funny. I am very familiar with the glazed over look. When I first got into photography I would call on my husband for every little thing: "Honey, look at this... Isn't that awesome?!!" I would try to describe details and technicalities to him, but he would just look at it and say: "That is a nice picture," and walk away. It drove me nuts... So, finally, I had to get out and meet people of "my own kind".

Hi Leah!
Is it pronounced "Lee-uh" or "Lee"? I always wonder about that. I have two friends named "Leah" and one is "Lee-uh" and the other "Lee," so I had to ask.
So I'm wondering, did you learn anything as a mechanic that ultimately has proven beneficial in your regular life? Has it helped in your photography in any way? I always wished I knew more hands-on technical stuff. (Can't change a tire or fix the dishwasher. My brain just doesn't work that way.)
Warm welcome to you!!!

Hi Jules,
It is lee-uh.
As far as mechanics go. I have replaced my own starter, altenator, and can do general repairs on my own vehicles, but I would rather not! Being a mechanic helped point me back to photography, I now know I don't want to be a mechanic!
