Full Version: Having a Second-Shooter on a FREE Wedding

So, my best-man from my wedding is getting married this weekend, and I am in his wedding party. He has not hired a professional photographer, so as a budding new photog, I offered to shoot for free to build my blog and my portfolio. I also have a colleague who is fresh to the industry and he wanted to shoot as well. Since there will obviously be some shots I can't get since I will be front-and-center during the ceremony, I was stoked to have him at the wedding.

So my question is... how do I handle this? What is the best way to make sure that both my colleague and I benefit from this wedding, without blending our brands? Should we both just shoot and blog our own photos?

Sounds like you're doing this as more of a favor than anything else. I don't think you have to worry about images from this wedding appearing in both of your portfolios.

Cool... Thanks for the affirmation. I tend to be overly-business some times, and due to the nature of this shoot, I am going to just focus on having some fun and learning.

Thanks again for the insight.

people do it all the time, they both post and reference the other. he will say I was shooting with so and so.

+1

I think if you are going to be the primary shooter, it would nice if he referenced you as such if he were to post images on his blog, and also for you to mention that he second shot for you when you post to yours. Just give credit where credit is due. If you are going to be co-shooters and are handling the responsibility equally, then I'd still mention each other's names (with links of course!). Good publicity for everyone regardless.
