I am back from Africa and almost over the jet lag. It has been a week since I returned and am getting back in the swing of things. I was in Kenya and Ethiopia for 3 weeks and it was a life changing experience. I was in search of a village to do my Through Their Eyes Africa project and guess what? I found it. A traditional African village that has never experienced electricity, no TV's, movies and has never seen or heard of a camera before. It is where I will be taking a group of wedding photogrpahers to train a group of teens from the village to use cameras so we can get a glimps of their culture through their pictures.

The village is the home of some of the Borana tribe. Here is a link to a Showit slideshow showing the first images I will share that show the faces of the Borana people we encountered along our trip. The end of the show is the village we will be doing our project in. I extracted the audio from a video I shot of a traditional Borana Dance. You can see the video if you visit our blog for Through Their Eyes Africa. You can check our blog to keep up on this project.

I also wanted to thank all of you that donated to this project and wanted you all to know what a success our trip was and I am even more excited about the project now than I was before I went to Africa. I now know that the project will work and now the planing begins! I will share some images soon that some of the kids took the first time they picked up a camera for the first time. You will be blown away when you see them.

I always post these things in the middle of the night so I forget things. Wanted to let you know that we plan to go back to Africa in either early January if possible. We just need to try to find dates our Mentor team can go. For those of you who won items on our Blog Auction I will be taking care of getting your items to you. I sent out your info before I left but had email problems while in Africa. It is all fixed and I will be getting right on this. Thanks for your patience.

Beautiful photos. I especially like #27, with four little girls and a dog. It is timeless.

Every image has a story. #27 was taken in a village in Ethiopia where we were re-building homes for orphans from AIDS. These kids were some of the ones we were giving a new home and either had AIDS or their parents has died from AIDS. A new home for them was not what you might think of. They still had dirt floors and were made from stick poles but they had tin roofs that will not leak. They have divided rooms for some privacy but their existing houses were ready to collapse. Our team was busy building these houses while I went south to find the village for our project.
