Full Version: Trouble using Showit
OpenSourcePhoto > GetIt > Showit Effects
Kiwi1
Hi,

I have been having trouble getting Showit to work on my powerbook (running MacOS 10.4.2). I have only today installed CSII and Showit, and have not used either before (yet am familiar with CS).

I can open images in CSII, and then apply Showit effects to individual photos. But get error messages when attempting to open multiple files from Bridge. Hopefully the error messages attach OK.

Any feedback is appreciated. Is this me using Showit wrongly, or is there a technical hitch going on?

Many thanks,
Tony Stewart

I have heard it referred to as a three ring circus. Engagement ring, wedding ring, suffering. This is not my experience though, just something someone told me when I was shooting a wedding.

Tony -

What version of Bridge are you using. I am using and testing on v1.0.2. It is the second update Adobe has put out. There may even be a newer version???

Try downloading the latest Bridge update from Adobe.com and see if that fixes the Bridge interaction.

Hi Forest,

Sorry for the delay - have been away for a long weekend.

I have currently have Bridge 1.0.0.545

Will go for the download and see if that helps.

Thanks,
Tony

Hi Forest,

Have downloaded Bridge 1.0.2.(109), installed, restarted, reinstalled Showit in the scripts/preset folder, & restarted. Managed to get further with this than before in Showit, but still have problems.

- I did get some Showit effects to work, but could not replicate this next time. The problem seems here that despite I managed to get to see some effects once, it did not work before or after.
- Trying to open multiple images highlighted in Bridge still doesn't work, and presents the same error messages.
- Applying Showit to open images also causes the same error message.
- The time I did get to see Showit apply an effect, there was no way to move onto the next image. There was no close option, the 'save and open next' command did not function, leaving me no option but force quit.

Any further advice?
Is it work resending Showit again to reinstall?

Thanks,
Tony

In Bridge, don't select the images. ShowIt should load all the images that are in the folder that Bridge has made thumbnails of. Make sure they're all JPEG files that you haven't worked on after opening, that is, no layers (kind of obvious but I couldn't figure it out once).

Did your install of Photoshop CS2 go smoothly? Do other scripts work as designed? You might have a bad install of Photoshop, but that's not likely.

To exit Showit, press the escape key. You shouldn't need to force restart. Photoshop really, really doesn't like quitting unexpectedly.

Showit is designed to work quickly. Put a bunch of images into a folder, point bridge to that folder and have it start building thumbnails, and once it's done building them, jump to PS and run showit. Don't highlight the images.

If you're doing this, then something else is wonky. Hope this helps.

Adam,

Thanks for that. That may have cracked it actually.
I have tried this again with several changes, and now have things running much more smoother!

- Selecting the images in Bridge was an error, so with no images selected, leaving Showit to work on all files, has worked.
- I did have JPEG's, but thought I would try another batch. The first ones didn't help what was happening I think, as these were 'JPG' files taken from iPhoto. The second batch that worked OK were 'jpg' files, originally batched from camera raw in PSCS. This has worked.

Thanks to all who have contributed. Will work on and see if I am now on track.

I always test with selecting just 3 or so images in Bridge so I'm pretty sure that works. I will check and see if there is a case sensitive issue. That would be embarrassing. wacko.gif
