Nick and I are just starting to get involved with our local shelter, the Charleston County SPCA. They usually just call us to take some cute pics of a dog that has been there a while and needs a home asap. Yesterday we called our contact, Kay, and she said they were having problems getting anything that resembles a pit bull adopted (thanks Michael Vick mad.gif ).

So, I just wanted to let you dog lovers know that your local shelter could probably use your help. Here's a few from our 20 min. visit yesterday...

What sweet pooches! Especially the Puggie -- I'm a sucker for those bug-eyes!

Thanks for posting these! It reminded me that I need to go over to my local SPCA and see if they need some help in this department.

I see a couple in there that look like my Bailey (who was identified by the SPCA as a 'hound mix' but has been called a 'pit bull?!?!' by family members.) She's the sweetest, most neurotic doggie alive. smile.gif See avatar.

OMGOSH!! They are soooooo adorable. I am already having a horrible doggie-craving and you just made it much worse. THANKS! LOL I especially love that last dude... how handsome! I think they look better without the fence, but it pulls at the heartstrings more to see them caged up.

I am so going to do this. I made the offer to a place way back when we started and they never actually got back to me, but we have moved since then and there are several other shelters in the area who may need my services. This may help me get the doggie fix I need until I find Mr. Poochie-Right! Yay. Thanks for reminding me.

Thanks for sharing- they are great! I just love how the eyes of an animal (or person for that matter) have so much to say!

I hope they find a home! smile.gif

There were so many cuties! The one of the golden pit in his cage makes me want to cry. He was such a sweetie! Thanks for the compliments. Go shoot, it will definitely fix your puppy cravings and help a needy cause.

I went and volunteered a few months ago to take pictures at my local shelters. I just love dogs(i have three! and one is a rescue). There was one pit bull that I loved so much and wanted really bad. It's a shame because pit bulls are actually really sweet. I will go back to the shelters again when I'm not so busy. They loved my pictures so much they enlarged and framed them to put up in their offices.

Thanks for doing what you do for them. I think thats totally rad!

Here's one I took

Oh my gosh! If those pics don't get the dogs adopted... absolutely amazing of each of them.

My uncle is involved in an animal shelter back in Cyprus which caters for animals ranging from dogs to donkeys! I asked him last time I was there if he would take me to do some shots of them but he couldn't make it but I'm hoping when we move back I'll be able to help them out in some way.

I'm really sad to say this but far too many people on the island mistreat their animals sad.gif When I was there last time they had a story on the news where someone had gone into a shepherd's goat farm and put fuel on the goats and set them alight. How awful is that? When I lived out there we had to have antidote in the house in case our dog ate anything whilst we were outside that had been purposely poisoned. His mother was poisoned - someone threw a chunk of meat into the yard laced with poison, she ate it and died - it ate away at her insides like acid. My uncle's dog was poisoned twice. The first time they got her to the vet on time but the second time she didn't survive sad.gif My uncle also has a horse that he saved from someone who was mistreating it. I've seen dogs chained up on the shortest, heaviest chains and the only time they're let out is at hunting season. It really is horrendous what people are capable of.

sick-o! I've heard in England pit bulls are called the "nanny dog" b/c they're so good with kids. It's truely not dogs that have issues, but humans who screw dogs up!
