In light of the thread that discussed the number of attorneys/former attorneys/law school grads currently posting on OSP, I thought I'd start a thread where people can list their OTHER professions (if any) that may help out members with their businesses/lives.
If you think that you have knowledge/training/education in a field that can be of use to all business people AND you are willing to lend a helping hand or give advice when necessary, post up your area of expertise and any other info you would like.
Personally, my other profession deals with juvenile delinquents....literally. So I doubt that it will be of use to very many of you.
If you DO think that you have something that you can contribute BESIDES your wonderful photography skills, please post!
Thanks!

I'm serious...I work for a beer company...we're all considered Ambassadors of Beer. Technically I'm a business analyst for financial software...but it's not a good fit. Great company to work for...but I'd rather just take pictures all day...

I work for a language school, which doesn't sound particularly helpful, unless some of you need to learn a language for a destination wedding!
I'm also seminary trained (Orthodox - Greek, Russian, etc) so totally understand those really long weddings! :-)

Picture Framer for three years.
Pre-press flunkie (making proofs, cleaning, sweeping, outputting to image setters, developing film, bowing to the scanner operator each morning, using Quark, Illustrator, sometimes Photoshop, trapping). But thankfully, no stripping -- hard to explain on your resume that you're a stripper. That lasted a whole year.

Graphic designer.
Webmaster (1996), Web Designer (1997), Webmaster (1997), Web Guy (1998), Web Designer (2000), Web Designer/Photographer (2001). Can you say, "San José, land of the layoff?" Some of that was in San Diego. Let's just say I did Web stuff.
Then photographer.

I majored in broadcast communication. The theories I've taken with me most applicable to the photography business (and most aspects of life for that matter) are the basic communication models. And keeping channels clear in all types of message transmission.
Sender > Message > Receiver > Feedback
in other words -
great images and service, good concise emails, creative pictorial direction, set clear expections
= client satisfaction
= happy photographer

10 years as a veterinary technician.
I've seen everything. The weak, the powerful, the emaciated...thats an industry with a roller coaster of emotions.
I got out of it because I no longer felt anything for the pets coming in on emergency. When you see it everyday, you grow custom to it.
That, I didnt like.

I went to school for TV and Film - I wanted to be an MTV VJ - back in the day when MTV actually played music videos :-)
Discovered Mac around 1990 and started my own graphic design studio.
The storytelling aspect of filmmaking and the composition apect of graphic design helped my wedding photography career more than anything!

I'm a Graphics Production Specialist for an online stationery company. So I sit here and listen to my ipod all day and play in Photoshop.
Before that (a year ago) I was a photo lab manager for 6 years. I liked it except for I wasn't fond of the company.
I also studied video production and some Flash design in school as well, so I'm a well rounded graphics geek! LOL

government bureaucrat, it's as exciting as it sounds.
My current plan is to hopefully get a phd and get into teaching occasionally and doing photography. First, I need the local university to get its program off the ground, which I've been waiting three years for already. I may look into a similar but different concentration though.

This is of NO discernible benefit to any of you I am sure, but I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Acting, emphasis on classical works, voice and speech, movement, dialects, stage combat, teaching and musical theatre (Yes, I can sing AND dance...though some would find that latter claim to be a bit dubious) I've been doing it professionally and academically for about 15 years regionally and in NYC.
I've done a film and a couple of theatre pieces in the last year or two, but the siren song of photography keeps pulling me away. Ah well...best laid plans!

I started out in construction when I was 14(Summer Jobs), Then I graduated High School in 1986. I moved to Florida from Ohio 1 month after graduation to be a carpenter. In 1989 I got into the swimming pool industry and currently own a swimming pool company called "The Backyard Adventure". I had to learn electrical, plumbing, tile, concrete, pavers, plaster, building waterfalls and we also build outdoor kitchens ,gazebos and tiki huts. So I guess I am the jack (OR JOE) of all trades.
