I've been wanting to do some more "creative" stuff other than just textures ... what do you guys think about the swirlies?? Yay or Nay?

Before (right out of the camera) and after of Roxy on the Beach in Florida ...

amity
oh yes, i love it!!!

I love it. Where ever did you find those swirlies? (If you don't mind sharing.) I have some but none that look like that.

what a cute shot...I love the way she's standing..sweet little bikini..this will be treasured when she's older! and I think that the PS really does add to the impact of the shot!

My hubby is a graphic designer ... he's got a TON of swirlies and cool Illustrator elements that he's collected over the years. I have NO idea where this one came from originally. He's pretty good at creating that kind of stuff so I think I'm gonna put him to work making me some flourish-y-thingies smile.gif

Thanks! I LOVE the way she's standing, too. That's why I picked this one to play with. She looks like a little statue. And I love the butt cheeks, too smile.gif

i love it---
really adorable!

They are in fashion now - but you have to watch your market. You can end up looking like a scrapbooker.

Is there something wrong with being a scrapbooker?
Kimberly Bee
a scrapbooker... dun, dun, dunnnn, haha!
VERY cuuute! I like the swirlies. And the cute lil' buns. I have a 3&4 yr old so I can say that =).

I think it's too much. You've got toning, texture, brushes, and a frame. To be honest I think the overabundance of effects and processing ruins a perfectly darling image. A little cropping and a pop of contrast and it would be perfect. The rest just ... well ... junks it up. IMO, of course.

I love it - and I also really love the original! smile.gif

I'm in agreement with Karen...I like it a bit simpler. I'd take one or two of the effects, but I think there's too much going on. I *do* think the swirlies can work, though....I love the pic though, and found myself looking at the other stuff more.

i lvoe the processing, but i have to say, either just the swirlies or just the frame, but not both.
Angela
Hey there~
I like it. Normally I don't care for frames like these much, but in this particular instance it reminds me of a window... a literal one and one into her childhood. Idyllic and captures a mood for sure. She is a cutie with her little bathing suit!

I like the processing and even the swirlies, but the frame tends to make it a little distracting to me. Really cute shot!
Kacy
Sooo cute! I love it.
Chriselda
oh geez. here we go! hahaha!

sarah i love the image. and i'm a hardcore "scrapper" so i like it all done up niiiice too!

obviously you're not going to do this for every shot you take. but yeah. i enjoy it. it's something different

the original is cute as can be as well

Was there a point to this? Or is honest feedback not wanted - just "oh how cute" responses? Cause if that's the case, then I won't waste my time if it's going to get these types of remarks.

CanvasRox
I like them both for different reasons. thumbsup.gif

I like the "done up" version for all the plays on it. I too am a graphic artist, and enjoy that look.

The SOOC is great on its own - - love the cheeks (I have 5 year old twins...). I agree with Karen - pop it up a bit and WOW - very cool!
SarahQ
Thanks everyone for the input!! I still haven't decided on it. I'll probably make a few more versions in between the two. I definitely like the swirlies, though. I used them on some senior portraits I did and they were a big hit. Here's one of those :

Hmmm ... I don't think anyone responded negatively to what you said. If anything, you had a lot of people who kinda agreed with you. I did *NOT* say I wanted only "oh how cute" responses, soooooo ... maybe you're being a tad bit sensitive?
Nicci
I like it, but maybe more so for something like an album cover than just a regular album image/print. This reminds me of something called PhotoDuds that was in the last Rangefinder.

meaning. i could go on and on and on about how much i love this. because i scrapbook. i am a photographer. and a mother.

i didn't join OSP to be nasty. and if anyone knows me... you'll know that i don't sugar coat things. or blow smoke up anyone's skirt.

so my first reaction was i LOVE this pp.

we clear on that?

i really love the colors in the edited version. i'm not crazy about the swirlies. but then again...i'm pretty tough, and tough girls and swirlies just don't mix. i mix better with bar fights, cage fighting and puppies. i mean motorcycles....

in all honesty, i think it'd be great as an album cover, as someone mentioned, or a large canvas print. i think it would work really, really well when applied to something...like a business card, or flyer, or poster, etc. it's very effective and pretty, but if it were my kid, i'd like something a little more simple so that i'd have a great photo of them, and not a heavily edited shot with lots of doo dahs and whoo whoo's.

...tough guys say doo dah's and whoo whoo's right? right...?
