Full Version: Videographers want digital images

I have had three videographers ask if I could send them a few photos that they can include in their videos. They said they would credit me. I really want to charge for the image usage. Though my clients might get the wrong impression if video guy tells bride he wants images and does not want to pay for them. Just wondering what everyone's policy might be here at the ultra hip OSP.
All the best and thanks a million!!

Clearly, there is no harm in them asking you, but it would be an enormous favor for you to do this (in my opinion.) It would be a lot to ask of even a friend.

It is absolutely reasonable for you to charge them for a product they are selling to your client. You spent all day making those images. If they want to improve their product by using the product of your hard work, they should renumerate you!!!

I would not worry what the bride and groom will think in this case. You can tell them you would love to provide the images for him, but you do need to charge a reasonable price for the usage of the images and time it takes to prepare them for the videographer's usage.

Just my two cents!!!

I think it depends on the arrangement you have with the videographer.

I work with one particular videographer and we help cross-promote our businesses a lot. I supply her with about 6-10 of the best images which she integrates into the wedding story AVP, credits me on her website, her blog and the credit roll of her finished DVD. The photo usage is limited to the DVD and slideshow though and she does not use it for any of her promotional materials. Mainly, she uses the photos for the DVD menu of the wedding video and for the DVD cover.

The difference of course is that the images she gets from me, are from weddings that WE BOTH worked on together. I even got to be extra in one of the videos she made:

So it was definitely beneficial for me!

THAT sounds like an awesome renumeration and is as good as $$$$!

Yeah, it's a sweet deal. I think it mainly just saves her from taking video grabs and gives her video a polished look. It's a win-win situation. thumbsup.gif

Auey, your blog is way cool! Nice, clean design. I love it! Oh, and that's a pretty sweet little trade with the videographer!

take care of other vendors, and they will take care of you. I was hesitant the first time I was asked for some photos a few years ago. It worked out great. Not only did they make an awesome presentation, they had made a flash video, just of us photographing the couple on the wedding day, mixed in with our logo, on their website. now we have been refering each other for the last few years, and I look forward to working with them, because we know how each other works. Its a win win situtation.

WOW! First of all .. that bride and groom were so... absolutely adorable.. beautiful. Second, I can see by this one video alone the power and the incredible value of videography. It was amazing and had me teary eyed. I thought your shots in the video were beautiful too.

Erich,
Hey there! Its a tough one.. on the one hand it would be good to be compensated for your images (always!), but on the other hand I think creating a really good working relationship with another wedding professional could be beneficial to your business.
Take care,

Agreed. This will not only make your bride happy, happy vendors are referring vendors! If that's not enough, it's a BUNCH of free, very acutely places advertsement.
It's similar to my concept of basically GIVING away cusom birth announcements.
