Full Version: Showit Sloppy Border Extension Version 1.1
OpenSourcePhoto > GetIt > Showit Effects

Version 1.1 of the sloppy border is now available. It is located here:

Sloppy Border Dowload Page

Attention Current 1.0 Users With Showit
Forest asked that I move the script from 012 to 500 so that it won't conflict with the enhancements to showit that are coming. As such, version 1.1 will now install in folder 500. After you install in folder 500, if you have installed or created new sloppy border .psd files, you will need to copy them over to the 500 directory. You will need to delete folder 012 so that it doesn't conflict with folder 500. You ONLY need to do this if you are upgrading from 1.0 to 1.1.

Whats new?
1. Put the fix in that John Andrews pointed out that when your default preferences are not in pixels, it causes the border to make your image really small. (This defect was in the standalone version only).

2. Sloppy border now remembers which border you used last and will have that be the default border on future invocations.

3. As said above, moved the effects version over to folder 500 so that it won't conflict with future versions of showit.

4. When invoked from showit, border will no longer flatten the image to provide the same behavior as other effects. Adam Squier pointed this out.

Enjoy,

Jim

Probably not... some questions to help me figure this out:

(1) Did this ever work on your computer? If so, can you pinpoint at any point when it stopped?
(2) Are you a windows or mac user?
(3) When you look in the 500 folder, do you see the three .psd files?
(4) Can you tell me all of the files in the 500 folder?
(5) If you upgraded from the 1st version, make sure that the 012 folder is gone.

That is all I can think of at the moment.

First let me say how excited I am to have some sloppy borders to work with!

But- I ran into a problem getting it to work. I copied the files as directed but when I tried to apply the script I got this error message:

Error 8: Syntax error.
Line: 1
-> #include "Sloppy.jsh"

Does anyone know what's going wrong here???

I have no clue, but let's see if we can figure it out. First questions:

(1) What version of photoshop are you running?
(2) Are you running Windows or Macintosh?
(3) Are you running the standalone version or the one that integrates into showit effects?

I'm running into the same problem with the drop-down box being blank when I click on the "Sloppy Border" button from within Showit Effects. But the drop-down box works fine if I run the script through File>Scripts>Sloppy in CS2.

From within C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Presets\Scripts\showit\effects, I have the 500 folder with the files:

button.png
effect.src
Sloppy.jsh
Sloppy-1.psd
Sloppy-2.psd
Sloppy-3.psd

Thanks for the info. This has been very helpful. I am working on a solution with the assistance of Jessica Strickland and hope to have a solution shortly. Very curious that it works outside of showit.

Ok, I am thinking this will fix the empty drop down issue. If anyone is having that issue, take this attachment, effect.txt and replace the effect.src in your 500 folder and see if it works. Note that the .txt is to be changed to .src in the 500 folder. Please report back here if it works or not.

Hi Jim. Unfortunately it's still no go for me. I removed the effect.src file from the 500 folder, replaced it with the effect.txt file, then renamed it to effect.src. But even it changing .txt to .src, the file is still seen as a .txt document. When I go into Showit Effects, the sloppy effect button does not show up among the effects buttons any more. Then, if I put the original effect.src file back into the 500 folder right alongside the effect.txt file that was renamed effect.src, the sloppy button reappears in Showit Effects, but you get the same blank drop-down menu.

Nevertheless, I am still enjoying using your sloppy border script outside of Showit Effects. Thank you.

Thanks for trying! The symptoms you report of it still being seen as a .txt file is consistent with what you see with the button not showing up. I am like 99% certain I have this fixed, just having trouble with the installation process. As such, I created a new version of the showit sloppy effects 500.zip file and it is available for download at:

http://www.jamescookphotography.com/sloppy

the 500.zip file has the new effect.src which I think will solve your problem. So if you could try and re-install it from the .zip file, I suspect it will work well.

I rarely use the standalone version as I mostly am in showit when I am doing this work. This along with my effects extention to showit:

http://www.jamescookphotography.com/jimseffects

(with the resize buttons) almost has everthing I need for a complete workflow inside showit for my blog image publishing.
