I am still trying to dig out of very busy (yeah) but a little crazy (I know...create freedom...) wedding season, and I have had one small annoyance, that now after several weeks, may drive me to the edge!
My mighty mouse roller ball has quit letting me scroll downward. I tried several things and nothing has worked. I finally looked all over the internet to research ways to clean it (remember sitting in your cubicle pulling the weird gray ball out of the bottom of your mouse and scraping the crud off of the rollers?) and found this...

Does anyone have any suggestions that do not require such drastic surgical measures?

The Mighty Mouse is a crappy little bugger in the cleanliness regard since you can't really take it apart without semi-destroying it. I'll list our method for keeping them in decent working order.

Here's what you need:
  • Get a Q-tip
  • Get a bottle of rubbing alcohol
  • Get a can of compressed air (with straw)
  • Get a few paper towel sheets
The process:
  1. Dip the Q-tip in the alcohol, getting it wet
  2. Use the Q-tip to push the gray ball in one direction a couple of times.
  3. First go up, up, up, up, etc.
  4. Wipe the mouse ball with the paper towel in a consistent direction, pushing down slightly.
  5. Use the compressed air & straw to spray down directly into the gray mouse ball.
  6. Let it dry for a minute or two.
  7. Repeat once every few weeks.
