A market is never saturated with a good product, but it is very quickly saturated with a bad one.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime. Teach a man to create an artificial shortage of fish and he will eat steak.

"When you are sitting right on the edge of something daring and scary and creative and powerful and perhaps wonderful... and you blink and take a step back.
That's the moment. The moment between you and remarkable. Most people blink. Most people get stuck.
All the hard work and preparation and daring and luck is nothing compared with the ability to not blink."

john, tall people can be smart too. i know because i work with one, and despite all the oxygen up there, he seems to be doing ok.

oh, and marketing quotes, so i'm not off topic:
"Kodak sells film, but they don't advertise film. They advertise memories." - Theodore Levitt
"In the factory we make cosmetics. In the store we sell hope."

and one (paraphrased) a friend of my recently said (who will remain nameless!):
"I don't think I want to try that. I don't trust the product cause the marketing is just too slick."

People really don't understand how smart and quick-witted Shaq can be. He is also a really generous person too -- and not in a fake "Hey watch me give the underprivileged kid something" way. He used to go through the poorest neighborhoods in LA on Christmas and hand out toys (think Playstation 2, etc) he paid for out of his own pocket.
BTW, I hate his style of basketball but respect him a lot as a person.

"Don't do what every other person has done to sell stuff in the past, and DON'T approach a business owner by telling them what THEY can do to help YOU. How you can feed off of their success and marketing. They don't want to hear that.
Go find a way to directly benefit them with no strings attached - they'll love and respect you for it."

"If the circus is coming to town and you paint a sign saying "Circus Coming to the Fairground Saturday," that's advertising. If you put the sign on the back of an elephant and walk it into town, that's promotion. If the elephant walks through the mayor's flower bed, that's publicity. And if you get the mayor to laugh about it, that's public relations. If the town's citizens go the circus, you show them the many entertainment booths, explain how much fun they'll have spending money at the booths, answer their questions and ultimately, they spend a lot at the circus, that's sales."

Amen to that. He's not a gifted film actor though his interviews are hilarious if you pay attention to the subtext. The man is an entertainer and a gifted athlete.

I got this in an email newsletter today. It's talking about stock photography marketing, but it's still applicable.
"FAIL BUT DON’T QUIT. Are you afraid you are not going to make it? Fear of failing is one of the greatest deterrents to beginners in the photo-marketing field. That’s why not too many succeed; they never get up after they’ve been knocked down. Most successful people in any field have failed many times. The difference between them and the ones who fail is that the ones who “make it” never quit. Many of the success stories are still in business not because they are extra good, but because the rest of the competition gave up and quit."
