Can anyone tell me how to trigger my 5D remotely?
I have searched and searched, but can't find anything.

I called B&H and they said there is something you can buy for about $15 that works for Nikons, but it would cost $700-$800 for whatever they have that works for Canons.

There must be a more inexpensive way?

I have a pocketwizard plus II.

OK, I don't know the specifics of the 5D, but if you go to the pocket wizard web site, they tell you what you need. If the 5D doesn't have an electronic shutter release port, you might be out of luck. They are expensive, but the Nikon ones are about 2x the cost of the Canon ones. So there. tongue.gif

the 5D does have a shutter release port. get a pocket wizard set, and the cord for canon pro/prosumer cameras (i believe its the 3 pin) and you're set. it's really neat.

if you want to shell out about 300 bucks more, get a pocket wizard multimax to take full advantage of remote triggering options. however, the standard transceiver set will do just fine.

Looks like this would do it

i've used those before and they are really not that great in my opinion. the one i used was very unreliable, and it isnt compatable with pocket wizards. um.. by the way, the specs say "a range of up to 100 feet in optimal conditons" .... you'd be lucky to get it to trigger from 30 feet 100% of the time. pocket wizards have a range of over 1600 feet, and you can use them anywhere. i've fired strobes through 2 foot thick concrete with pocket wizards, and you can trigger cameras across large sports arenas with them... it's done every day at major league sporting events by newspaper and magazine photographers.PWs are really the way to go. while they're a bit pricey, they are well worth it and they will last forever.

You can order it online at B&H.

This is designed for Pocket Wizard and below is a little info on what it does:

This pre-trigger cable is designed to keep the camera constantly "awake", and has the same effect as holding the camera's trigger button pressed down half-way. A camera will trigger much faster in the "awake" mode, but will also use up more battery power. However, the pre-trigger mode can be switched on or off from the cable itself.

I have this and it works very well. Many photojournalists use a Pocket Wizard and the CM-N3-P cord for "Slam-cams." Remote cameras are fun.
