Full Version: 800x600 Jpg = good 4x6. decent 8x10?

So, we've been considering offering a "low resolution" CD/DVD with our collections. The question though, is, well, how low is low? I want to give them the ability to have good 4x6 prints, decent 8x10s, and, well, nothing really good past that. They won't get the digital files until they receive their album, so, I am not concerned with extreme print sales afterwards.

Anyway, do you think 800x600 (or close to) is a decent resolution? I am quite sure it'll give good 4x6s. Will a resolution near 800x600 give a good 8x10/8x12? And, really, most importantly, 800x600 won't give a good 11x14 or larger, correct?

Just wanted to know what you guys do. If there is a better resolution I should go for, let me know. Thanks!

Just bumping. Anyone else offer digital files of different qualities? Our lower collections will includ the lower resolution, and our higher collections will include full resolution. Of course, we have the option to purchase full resolution for a price. smile.gif

Honestly, the reason I wouldn't offer a low resolution disc is because people don't care what size you tell them they can or can't print - they print what they want to. Some of them don't care (or notice) that it looks like complete crap. I'd offer all or nothing - but that's just my opinion.

I agree here as well! They'll print it regardless, so it would be better, in my opinion, to let them have one that would make the prints look great!KseniaBut to answer your specific question...I have no idea. My gut instinct tells me that an 8x10 wouldn't look great at 800 pixels.Ksenia

I sent an 800x583 image of my daughter to my in-laws one time. The photo was framed, and the image part was probably maybe around 730 pixels across. My dad printed it out on his cheap inkjet printer on cheap photo copier paper and proudly magneted it to his fridge for all to see. *sigh* Last time I did that...
