Hi all

I know I don't post that often (I'm pretty shy that way, but I'll try harder...smile.gif) but I love all the advices and the very sweet and nice atmosphere around here.
Anyway, this time I need to buy a new memory card reader and I was wondering if anybody has any recommendations to what brand to buy. I want to get one that is fast enought that I don't need to take a nap while uploading...smile.gif. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I use a MAC.

Thank you!

Raluca

+1 on that. Just make sure its not open when Lightroom is open...theres a known conflict causing Lightroom to shutdown.

I bought the SanDisk 12-in-1 USB 2.0 Card Reader from Staples, a long time ago, and I was never able to use it on my MAC. I had friends telling me that it was super fast on their computers, but on my MAC it took a veryyyyyyyyyyy longggggggggg timeeeeee to download something (half an hour or so...)

I wonder if the one you recomend would do the same since is a 2.0 USB by San Disk???

I have 4. So there. J/k smile.gif

I use them all at the same time into a USB hub connected to the MBP at weddings to quickly download images. I'll do 4, 4gig cards in about 10 minutes smile.gif Very nice!

I only have one, but it's so much faster than my old reader that it's like having 3.....does that count?

I'm really loving it.

I have a Kingston Mutli-Card reader, before the newest SanDisk ones came out recently, it was reviewed as the fastest in the world.

But you know how those records hold up with computers! =o) Heheh... it's small, it works, it's cheap. =o) No arguements here.

Ok Guys

So I went to Staples and bought the one you recomended (SanDisk Card Reader/Writer USB 2.0) and it doesn't workkkkkkkk..........
What I mean by that is: I have to plug it into my monitor (which they actually say not to do) in order for my computer to even see it, and once I edject one card (after downloading it) it won't see the next one unless I unplug it an plug it back in.
What is up with that?????

I am sooooo maddddddddd........

I have no problem with other brands of card readers in terms of seeing them, just with the fact that they are slowwwwwww......

I use a G5 Mac. I know it's not the computer, or at least I hope it's not....
What am I doing wrong????

Meet this?

Macintosh computer with USB support
Mac OS 9.2x plus, OS X v10.1.2 plus
CD-ROM drive
USB 2.0 port required from Hi-Speed transfer (full speed with USB 1.1)

Also, did you install the TransferMate software? Reboot? I don't know shite about MAC POS but I know that this card reader is the BEST and it should work on your suckintosh.

Windows USB users unite! =o) I feel like I've found a long lost twin!

I love the fact that I don't HAVE to drag my card to a trash bin, or eject, or anything with Windows.

=o) Time's money...

According to the instruction manual I don't need to install anything if I have MAC OS 10.1.2+ (which I do) so....

I was wondering if any Mac users had any problems with SanDisk Memory card readers or is it just me???
If it's just me I'll give it up, but... maybe...who knows...I might not be alone here...

Thanks

I have a lexar firewire reader that works dang fast on my macs... Apple created Firewire, and it is good. ;-)
Raluca
Thanks Bill.
If I return this one maybe I'll look into Lexar.
Raluca
Bill, is this the one you have ?

Professional UDMA Firewire 800 CF Reader
BillCawley
No I have the Firewire 400 version

It appears that they don't make it any more and the used price is more than I paid for mine new.... I think I'd stay away from the 800 version since a lot of computers still don't have FW800 ports (like my laptop).

If I was shopping right now I'd give this Sandisk FW400 reader a try.

Geez, Lexar needs to start making 'my' reader again and selling it for $40 like they used to....

Edit: Someone has a pile of them on Ebay for $20 opening bid and $28 buy it now, I think I'll be picking up a spare...
Raluca

I already tryed two Sandisk card readers on my Macs and I didn't have any luck with them so I don't know if I want to go there again.

Seriosly, am I the only one that has a problem with SanDisk card readers on Macs????

Mac users out there...What do you use to download your pictures????

Please help...!

Thanks

Hey Raluca,

Where is your AVATAR girl??????? I know you have a cute face. smile.gif

I have a cheapy Sony one (I think I paid $15 for it or $20). It works fine--pretty fast. Here is a thought. Why don't we try it on my computer (MacBook)...could be our shiny new Xeon that is the problem??

I won that first ebay auction for $20... now I have a backup. :-)

Seriously, I wouldn't trade this little Lexar Firewire reader for anything. It's small, fast and reliable. Works flawlessly on my G4 and G5 Macs.

Get one off Ebay... ;-)

Amen! I've had mine for a while and it is WAAAYYY faster. Gotta love the firewire.

Hi Geneve

I don't have an avatar because somebody that we both know wink.gif has not taken a cool photo of me yet. Maybe we will address that on the 13th (at the beach)....smile.gif

I don't think is our awesome computer at fault because it doesn't work on my laptop either...sad.gif

Anyway, I think I'll just give up on SanDisk for now...Such is life...smile.gif
