So I had a couple inquire about having their engagement shot at the Getty in LA. As far as I can infer from their website photography is allowed but everytime I call to confirm I am left on hold until I get frustrated and hang up (ie 30min+) I was wondering if anyone has ever had or attempted to shoot their? If it is not allowed are there any recommendations for a place nearby?
Thanks in advance!

I don't think they'll sweat it, unless you show up with an attached flash or lightstand.

Thanks guys!
I was planning on just going up and winging it.

We actually shot an engagement session at the Getty Villa in Malibu. It was awesome!

Until we got thrown out 10 minutes into the session by security. We did have clearance and names and papers and everything. Good thing though that our bride to be was awesome. She found a way for them to allow us more time: 30 minutes. It was totally worth it!

We couldn't just shoot anywhere though after they talked to us. We were given a place where nobody was. And there were tons of people at the Getty Villa.

So, please don't wing it. I highly suggest having documents or at least a plan B.

Those photos are great! I will definately keep trying and calling them. I will also ask the couple for a back up location. THanks!

There are 2 Getty locations. The Getty Malibu is more restrictive but the Getty Center is open game. Even went there with a photo class of about 10 students once. We shot an engagement session their and security gave no problems. You just have to make sure you do not use flash and are not allowed to shoot in the galleries that are traveling exhibits. There's lots of variety there and they're open till pretty late.

Good luck!

Thanks Gina! Did you have to get a special permit or anyhting ahead of time?
