Full Version: Is there anything we can do?
OpenSourcePhoto > Digital Photography > Misc. Photo Question

I am watching the TV and I am morbidly blown away by what I am seeing. It really looks like the tsunami damage videos. Someone on the news found a family portrait today and I wondered where the family might be. I gripe and complain about gas prices and then I look at the TV and realize how small a problem that really is compaired to what the hurricane victims are going through.

Just a thought but is there anything that we can do to help? Pray, send money, supplies... We all go about our normal lives and the hurricane victims have no sense of normal.

Any suggestions?

See this post:

KK has called me and asked if I could post a request for help from our OSP members.
In the shelter she is helping out at there are about 500 children with little to nothing. They left with a small amount of cloths and basically no toys or any other activities i.e. cloring books, stuffed animals etc..

She wants me to ask our members if they can send some items to help these kids.

Anyone willing to help please send the items to KK P.O. box and she will see that the items are given to the children personally.

P.O. Box 4123

KK says the children are expected to be in a shelter for at least a few weeks at best.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for posting this and for making people aware. Some people I have talked to didn't know how bad this devastating event was! blink.gif I was thinking the same thing...it is just awful. The photos being sent from photojournalists and citizen journalists are so surreal. The stories being told...heartbreaking. There is a race to rescue survivors, evacuate the 20,000 + people in the super dome and try to stop more water from coming in. 80% of New Orleans is underwater....a beautiful city almost gone!

It is a desperate situation, there's a plea from the former mayor for President Bush to use all available resources, before we lose the city.....it brings me to tears, its so horrible!

http://www.redcross.org is asking for donations. Many people want to help, but can't do much.
All we can do is pray. 51.gif

we were just discussing this at lunch... how awful!! It's the psunami of the US.

Besides saying our prayers we can really do 4 immediate things to help:

1. donate ($$ or other ....like KKs toys)
2. give blood (they REALLY need it now!!)
3. volunteer. (anywhere...they need help at the Red Cross in ALL areas...not just down there.... it is actually just as useful to be somewhere else boxing up stuff to send there since they're already low on places to put people...including volunteers)
4. for those of us nearby, offer shelter. Just got back from my buddies studio...he's got 4 NoLa natives sleeping on his floor there;)
