I got the 85 1.8 today, and I'm quite happy with it so far. I've never used a USM lens before and it was super quiet, especially compared with my 28 2.8 with the old focusing motor (it's a loud buzzing sound lol). I know in the future I'll be quite tempted to upgrade my 50 to the 1.4 and perhaps my 28 to the 1.4 as well (although I think my copy of the 2.8 is especially sharp). Anyway, I have my own prime trifecta and am ready to be awesome lol Here's a quick snapshot with it (please disregard the horrible white balance that came as a result of having window light mixed with CFL's overhead)

Yeah! I like to call my 85 1.8 my "magic" lens. Super sharp, beautiful portraits, live music... it's great.

Thanks! I have a feeling it might be my number one in many situations. The only thing I have to get used to is the fact that with the longer focal length, camera shake is more evident so I need to keep my shutter speed higher with the 85 than I normally do with my shorter primes.
Here are a couple more a took yesterday:

My 85 is my favorite, too!

However, my husband HATES shooting with it. I think he's crazy!

I love my 85 1.4 nikon lens. I don't use it as much with digital, as I did with film. I use my 50 1.4 alot. But I have started bringing it out a little more this year. Congrats on the new purchase.

Awesome! You'll love having this one in your arsenal! I use it almost exclusively for all my portrait shoots and it honestly has never disappointed

Maybe he just likes zooms better? I know I have to pry Dedra away from this lens at receptions. We trade off between this and a wide zoom and she always wants to the 85!

It is a great lens, my wife uses it about 60-70% of the time at our weddings.

I hear ya Chris, I'm all about saving money! lol My three lenses (28 2.8, 50 1.8 and 85 1.8) cost me $590 (plus shipping of course), so I'm all about being frugal, at least when I'm only booking a few weddings a year.
Here's one I just took for good measure
