Full Version: ok, so now I'm really confused

ok so I'm on a PC and I just bought an eye one monitor calibrating system and used it on my brand new 20" flat panel monitor. Why are my photos a completely different color in the windows browser (like if I am just looking at the MY PICTURES folder and viewing it as a filmstrip) than they are in photoshop? I'm a pretty computer savy person but this is driving me bonkers. Is there a setting I need to be using in photoshop to apply the new monitor color profile? I just assumed it would alter the color settings of the moitor itself and not be a program issue. I know how color space works and currently I'm working in sRGB because so much of my photography is being viewed on the web. Proofing, web site, slideshows, etc. Should I go back to working in Adobe1998?

I need help from someone who has their computer and color management all in key to help me out here cause now I've gotten myself completely confused.

If it helps any, my lab is WHCC, but now I can't remember what color space they recommend for their printing. Ahh... this is all starting to hurt my head wacko.gif blink.gif

Browsers typically drop some colors...which is likely the biggest reason you'll see a difference in colors between PS and in an internet browser. There are some colors that are considered "web-safe" and some that aren't, and browsers will drop some of them! If you're uploading to a lab or something, your files will retain the color properties that you have in PS if you're in the correct color space and should print correctly (which is the point of calibration, right?) but will show up, at least to some extent, differently on the web.

it's not that they are showing up differently in a web browser by my windows navigation. Basically when I view my files on my computer by going to my pictures and searching the thumbnails, there is a HUGE difference in the color of the thumbnail or the large view in my windows system as compared to when they are opened in photoshop. Before I had this monitor calibrated, there was never ANY difference between the two.

Gosh I wish I could explain this better... does that help?

Oooooh! I see what you're saying now. Hrm...I would guess it has to do with colorspace, but I have no clue. sorry!

hahha- thanks for trying to help though! biggrin.gif I'm guessing it's a colorspace issue too but I don't know how to fix it wacko.gif . Or what to trust?! And I have this HUGE wedding (my biggest job ever) to edit and was trying to get something online before the end of the day and I'm afraid I'm screwing up the color because I don't trust what I'm seeing now.
