So, I am shooting a wedding last night. I get through the service fine, then am about to do a few wedding party pics before the reception. I set up get ready to shoot and as I am shooting the Father and Bride and Groom, my Mark II starts doing something weird. It focuses way behind the subject. So, I try several things to reset it and nothing. So, thankfully I have my 20D to finsh with.
I then start testing the Mark II and this is the result. The autofocus is fine, the pictures are sharp. But, when I look through the viewfinder and focus it is not in focus according to my eye, but according to the resulting picture it is. Naturally I thought it was the diopter setting, but I put that in the middle and it is still doing it. So, any help would be appreciated! I have heard about different focusing screens, is that my problem? It seems as if something right inside the viewfinder is off, or knocked out of line, but I don't know what it would be.
If any one can't help me resolve the problem, is there a Canon pro service repair so that I can get my camera back or a loaner before next week's wedding? This is so frustrating, please hear me begging for help!!!!
thanks

Sounds like you need to get the camera repaired. (yeah, right. Thanks, Adam) ;-)
On DSLRs it can be tricky to line everything up. The focus screen, the sensor, and one other thing that I can't remember right now. If any of them get out of whack, it'll mess things up. It sounds like your focus screen got jiggled. If they're replaceable on your camera, you may be able to pop it in. If not, it'll most likely need to go back to Canon to be repaired. To get it back in whack!

That's a bummer... There is Canon Professional Services but even once you're signed up I think it'd be tight to get everything turned around in a week. I'd just send it in and plan on taking another 20d as backup for the weddings you've got coming up.

I'm in line to purchase the MARK IIn and only have the 20D right now. Does the MarkII have an internal battery like the 20D? The 20D has an internal battery inside the regular battery compartment. If it does try doing a hard reset by taking the internal battery out for 1 minute then putting it and the regular battery back into the camera.

How do I get locked into the Canon Pro Service? I know that with Digital Equipment the likelihood of this happening again is substantial. I would love to have that contact.
So, I guess you haven't encountered anything like this huh?
thanks

PS I have been reading through your book list. We should get a bookclub section going. I would love to have some conversations with you and Dane and some of the other readers.
