Full Version: "Green" packaging?

I am really interested in finding a "green" alternative for print packaging, presentation folders, envelopes, boxes, etc. Anyone know of any green alternatives (using recycled paper, etc.)? I'd like to find something that looks nice but is more environmentally friendly. To date I have only used the packaging sent by my labs - with Pictage's pretty black boxes I tie a ribbon around them, but when I order from WHCC I just give them to my clients as packaged. I also save any "extra" glassines and reuse them when I can. Just trying to cut down on waste....

I have been brianstorming this for a while now. I have come up with one or two ideas, but am having a hard time bringing them to life. I will PM you if I have any success....or I can share here. My wheels are turning.

I actually have thought ALOT about this lately

I think it's a great idea! One thing I was recently considering was using recycled kraft colored bags/envelopes and boxes, and then using stickers with my logo, etc. on them, instead of having stuff printed...then using raffia instead of ribbon (I believe you can buy recycled - it comes in one color, but it's pretty easy to dye on your own; you may also be able to get recycled that is dyed as well). I'd love to hear if you come up with other stuff.

Please post if you find a product that fits the bill - I definitely am for recycled or "green" products as well and I have several clients who would appreciate that. I just haven't seen anything that is ready-to-go and looks professional enough for me to use yet!

I've been looking all over for "green" packaging as well. I wish they would make it easier to find! If anyone finds anything please let me know also smile.gif

Wow... so it's not just me having trouble finding things! That really is sad....

I have thought about using kraft paper and/or bags and raffia, but I was really hoping to find some boxes to better protect the prints. You do have to be careful even when buying raffia - I used it when I made my wedding invitations and I accidentally picked some up that was actually made of plastic. I didn't even know that they made any raffia out of plastic... to me that's not raffia - it just appears to be. I had purchased some that was dyed blue (I think from Pearl Art Supply) that was made from recycled paper - if you took the threads apart it was still light brown on the inside.

Autumn - I think, though I'm not sure, there's a company that makes boxes that would hold at least some sizes of prints, that are recycled kraft boxes...I'll have to look for it again....that's what we used for my wedding invitations - a 5x7 box. I just can't remember the company off-hand.

This is a great idea, so I spent a little time on Google and pulled up a couple things that might be good, although not all list their prices.

RecycledProducts.com has a HUGE list of random stuff, here are some of the pertinents ones.

Recycled Kraft Boxes: http://www.recycledproducts.com/?pid=1204&cid=10
On products list also has white gloss version and other sizes.

Recycled Binder: http://www.recycledproducts.com/?pid=1208&cid=10
Also some others on the product list, thought this looked best.

Recycled Folder: http://www.recycledproducts.com/index.php?...1035&cid=10

Recycled Bags: http://www.recycledproducts.com/?cid=15&pcid=5

*******

UK Green Stationary Company has "A full range of recycled packaging materials, packing tape and box sealing tape from polypropylene not PVC."

*******
Go Green Packaging: http://www.buyonlinenow.com/green-products.asp
Packaging in particular here: http://www.buyonlinenow.com/green.asp?subcat=LCAA
Great variety and actual listed prices

Unfortunately, none of this stuff seems to "look nice" so I'm not sure it would work ><

i've also been investigating this for awhile. i've gotten some samples from http://www.greenerprinter.com/grp/welcome.do and was quite impressed. their printed products seem to be a little pricey compared to regular, non-eco-friendly counterparts, but if being green is important to you, i suppose we'll all find a way to cough up the extra cash and sleep better at night knowing we're saving the world. rolleyes.gif i've considered hand making my own print boxes- there is a book board called davey that is supposed to be made of recycled materials and there are lots of beautiful tree-free handmade papers coming out of india and other parts of asia. i've also started saving giftwrap and ribbons and whatnot to reuse for things like this.
