Full Version: canvas on demand review

Hey, I wanted to share this with you canvas printers. I found canvas on demand and saw they had a photographers program. When I joined I got a free 16x20 canvas (paid for shipping) and I got it today. I have no other experience with canvas printing for comparison, but I must say I'm impressed with what I have and it seems like an excellent product. It came boxed well and the print looks exactly like I processed it. I had it made with black edges, since I'd lose part of the tree with the wrapping. Here are some images of the canvas:

Nice image, however, a few points to be made for a comparison to a truly amazing canvas provider: pixel2canvas.

1.) the image very uneven on the edges. I have yet to have black edges printed on my canvases, but I've seen photos of P2C canvases where the edge ends evenly around the corners, not at an angle.

2.) the corners don't look tightly wrapped. in the top photo, all of the corners look like they are sticking out.... unacceptably so.

3.) the canvas looks cheap and is uncoated. P2C UV coats all canvases at no extra charge, and they'll even throw on an extra layer out of the good of their hearts, if your image looks like it could use it.

4.) is the back finished? if so, what kind of mounting options do you have? cable? a hook? is there paper on the back and is it attached well?

5.) you don't need to lose any of the tree... they would have cloned and healed the edges to make the image work at P2C. this is done at no cost, and very convenient if you can't or don't want to do it yourself.

overall, this is not a good first impression. i do not mean to be rude or to be putting anyone down here, but just from your images of a simple canvas print I do have a lot of critiques and i would not order from that place based on this impression.

DISCLAIMER: I do not work for, nor do I have any affiliation with pixel2canvas. I'm simply a very happy customer who has been greatly impressed with their work, and can appreciate a truly professional canvas output, based on experiences with other providers that i've used in the past.

It looks great, I can't wait to receive the one I ordered, it should be here any day smile.gif

Trevor, you make some great points, and definitely gives me all the more reason to check out what the others have to offer, and makes me know what to look for in terms of quality. I must say that after I made my post, I did notice on someone else's website that their canvas was more tightly wrapped on the corners, so that bummed me out a bit about mine that it didn't seem as well finished. It came with some metal mounting hardware I had to put on myself, but there's no paper backing.

Anyway, I like it enough for myself, since it only cost me shipping, but I think I need to see what pixel2canvas and simplycanvas offer in comparison. The good thing about OSP is that others have a point of reference that I don't. Thanks for the critique Trevor!

Hey not a problem. Who can turn down a canvas for the cost of shipping? (well, besides me... haha)

As far as mounting and backing, let me throw in a few more little tidbits from my experience with P2C.

1.) they finish the back of the canvas off nicely with securely fastened backing paper. i believe it can be removed if you ever need to tighten the canvas, but don't take my word for it. P2C also gives you a bag of little silicone stick-on bumpers for the corners of your canvas so it doesn't rest against the wall, and also so it hangs evenly and not at an angle. ohhh and they also provide a bit of grip, which keeps the print from moving side to side ;-)

2.) as far as mounting goes, P2C installs a hanging wire (cable, actually) which allows you to easily adjust your print on the wall without having to worry if you installed your little hook thingy in the right place.

i know that if you sign up for an account with simplycanvas they will send you a canvas sample (unmounted, just an 8x11 piece with a photo printed on it,) but i was not overly impressed with the print or canvas quality (not to mention that after slightly bending the piece a few times while holding it, some of the image actually started to crack off)

pixel2canvas does have a great artists discount program (artists = anyone but consumers, basically) and you start out with a 10% discount on all of their prices if you are part of the artist program (which is free to join and you don't have to order a minimum amount of canvases or anything... it's just there to help us out!) Then, if you order 3-6 prints in a month, you'll receive a 15% discount. 20% discount if you order 7 or more. Niiiiiice!

Honestly though, i've talked to roxanne and CB at pixel2canvas numerous times, and they are just fantastic people (and rox is actually a fellow OSP-er... i love supporting good people here on OSP)

i'm gonna shut up now, but if you ever have any questions, give pixel2canvas a call and they'll be more than happy to talk to you about anything you want to know (excluding where babies come from, how long to cook chocolate chip cookies, etc. But canvas questions are always welcome I'm sure)

enjoy!

I'll tell anyone how long to cook cookies, and even share my Garlic Tarragon Chicken recipe!!! laughing.gif

The backs of our canvases are covered with white Tyvek - allows the canvas to breathe should any moisture get in there - kraft paper doesn't allow for that. And - have you ever tried to rip a FedEx envelope? Not gonna happen!

And babies? My twins came from the infertility doctor and a little petrie dish. Your mileage may vary. w00t.gif

...thank you very much Trevor! I look forward to seeing you at our P2C Get Ducked World Tour on the 17th in San Jose!

All the best,
Roxanne

Michelle Ross
Thanks, Roxanne! I'm way overdue for a sample wall. I just signed up for an account.
CanvasRox
Thanks Michelle - I just activated your account!

Make sure you read the FAQs and the My Account page - which I'm just now updating - we're doing a Pixel2Canvas World Tour - basically taking our show on the road to meet y'all! I'll post here on OSP about it in a few minutes.

You and I are going to get along like a house afire! Mystery Science Theater! Woohooty! w00t.gif

All the best,
Roxanne
