Full Version: Album companies VS Print sizes

Let’s face it; the majority of wedding photographers are using digital cameras, based on a 35 mm format - in other words a 2x3 aspect ration.

I’m sure the labs are aware of this “new trend” as well as the album companies. So help me understand why album companies and labs don’t provide products in that same 2x3 aspect ratio?

Here’s what I mean. If I were to design say a 10x13 bride’s album and the parents want a clone I have to tweak it or crop off something to get a 5x7. Or say I’m designing a 10x15 bride’s album, my only choice is a 4x6 parent album because no one makes a 5x7.5.

Am I just being too methodical or has anyone else ever run into a problem?

Ok, by the lack of responce it truly must just be me huh.gif

Hey Pam, I'll answer you so you don't feel so lonely.

We design all of our flush albums as squares. It makes it really easy to do clones in smaller sizes. Eliminates the size issues if parents want a clone.

I was just in my frame shop yesterday and asked if they had ready-made 8x12's. The girl looked at me like I just asked her to bark the national anthem. Then she said, "Oh, is that a photographer thing?" So I schooled her a little (surprised she didn't already realize this being the one that actually assembles the frames).

Ah yes - square. But then again I have to conform to what is "standard" which is truly a delima for me. That's why I use QB for my matted album - because I can do what ever I want to do VS working with a mat catalog.

Thanks Lynn and Shannon for replying - I was really thinking I was the only one that ever had a problem with this.
