I loooooooooove shooting. I enjoy editing when it's not overwhelming. Lately it's overwhelming. I'm staring at 8 sessions and 3 weddings from the past 2 weeks that need to be edited. I don't have TIME to do it, I don't WANT to do it. I'm going on vacation next week and don't want to sepnd the entire time working!
I'm ready to outsource my editing.
Who do you recommend?
If any OSPers are looking for some extra work & actually like editing - let me know!
I need rates, services offered, etc... I also need someone who'll work with FTP, I don't want to burn and ship a zillion DVD's. I want someone who will take all the images from a wedding, cut them down to a reasonable number, color correct, add contrast or whatever it needs, process them in to JPEGS, sort them in to catagories (getting ready, ceremony, formals, etc...) and send them back.

Currently Lavalu does this, ShootDotEdit does too but they aren't taking new clients. I know that if there were more hours in a day I would SO do this. I love to edit!

I don't know of anyone, but I am totally in the same boat.
I have a couple of mom friends who are good photographers (but never want their own business) and I am considering buying one of them their own laptop and training them to do this for me. This type of job would be a SAHM dream because they don't have to deal with clients or drop what they're doing at the moment. They would just have to get it back within 3-5 business days.
A trust-worthy college student who's interested in the photography field wouldn't be a bad place to start either.
Seriously, I think I should have gotten into the post-processing business instead of the shooting/bookkeeping/editing/album-designing/customer-service/accounting business. But I just love shooting too much to give it up.
Have fun on vacation - don't work too hard!!

This was so hard for me to hand over b/c of what a control person I can be, but honestly I was so buried at times with all the different projects we have going, that I was struggling to even do any thing in regards to "customer satisfaction." So I gave the guys at ShootDotEdit a try (actually three tries so far).
I just go our third wedding back from Shoot Dot Edit, and this one was FLAWLESS! I LOVE them and how they're working to profile what my look and feel are in a photo. Plus, their website is so cool. makes me laugh every time.

Thanks guys

I am waitlisted for ShootDotEdit... they seem like the perfect solution for me but I probably won't be un-waitlisted till August.
I'm really glad to hear you're happy with them MeRa, that makes me feel better about my decision.
In the meantime I just need to find someone to edit at least 2 of these 3 weddings so I can actually enjoy my vacation

I've seriously considered hiring & training someone to do it in-house - but the training process would take SO long and I'm afraid they'd just up and quit one day, not be reliable, or not be good at it. I'm scared to invest that much time in to something that might not work out. Although, honestly, that would be the ideal situation for me. I could shoot more and probably actually be able to afford someone almost full time to do all the editing. That would be a *dream*!!! But how in the world do you find the right person for that job, yanno?

Wouldn't uploading your pictures take longer than burning DVD's, not to mention the recipient downloading them? I've never done a test, but man, that seems cumbersome.
I'd be very interested in talking to you about this. And you'd be the first person I know from Tennessee! How cool is that? Please PM me so we can try to work it out.

I think upload/download time will still be shorter than burning DVDs and shipping them, not to mention less costly.

I just got my first wedding back from Lavalu (www.mylavalu.com). I just had them convert my raw files to jpegs. Like shootdotedit I think they've grown a little fast and my have bit off more than they can chew. They say their turn around time is 5 business days, but it took them 10 with my first order. My images look pretty good for the most part. I think part of it is my fault because I wasn't as specific as I could have been. I think their prices are really reasonable though.

I am so glad I saw this post! We got slammed this year with PP, editing. Mostly because we hired our adult kids this year adding 2 more cameras and that much more to edit. It has been great on the shooting side and for them but hard on the editing, pp, side. Add to that the headache Mark had with lightroom but that seems to be getting better thanks to Matt Antonio! We are defragging the computer and it already seems to be helping so far but we still are in the midst of defragging so it might be a whle before we can get to the next wedding to find out for sure. 2 down 2 to go plus weddings to shoot. But feeling much better about things I appreciate knowing that there are ppl out there filling this role in case we need it! So thanks for posting this and I hope things work out for you Melody!
Such great people here!

I do editing but am not set up to FTP.... not sure how hard it would be to set that up for myself. If interested shoot me an email and we can chat!

I'm not sure that I'm ready to start outsourcing this yet, but, just out of curiousity, about how much should I expect to pay for it if I do decide to go that way?

Instead of Burninf DVD, what about buying an external HD, and send that to the persond doing the editing?

Thanks for reminding me David! I do have a few photographers that send their stuff that way... That way works the best!
Cheers!

^----- I just posted an introduction and am seeking assistance/2nd shooting/experience in wedding photography. I do happen to love editing and this would be an amazing experience.
Then I noticed you live in Chatt, and I'm in Cleveland. I'll send you an email, but I'd love to talk

I had 7 weddings in 9 weeks time! I had 10 days to edit the last 4 before I left for vacation. All 7 were edited and ftp'd by the time I left with time to spare!
I cannot avoid sounding like an advertisement but you have to check out
ActionRunner, my very own editing tool. It's so easy I'll edit them for you if you don't like it, at a rate of course, but for real, I have plenty of time to take on extra editing so if your interested further email me at info@davistools.com
This tool has revolutionized my editing time. I used to spend 5 days on one wedding, now it's about 3-5 hours and I'm giving people 700-1000 final images, all edited.
If you think I'm a spammer please keep your thoughts to yourself. I've kept quiet about ActionRunner for months now as I was totally coming off as a spammer in my excitement. But when I read a thread like this I can't keep quiet! It really works amazing!
