I used to use some Bowens Pulsar radio triggers. But the cannot trigger my camera fast enough at sports events. So I bought three Pocket Wizards Plus II. Work great. Then I found this amazing Light Meter video from Sekonic:

.. and I was in love with a new light meter (Sekonic 358). I bought it cheaply in HongKong with a built in radio transmitter to use with the Pocket Wizards. Works great, both.

Then I watched the video again and again and again and again.

And felt in love with quad triggering. But it is available with Multimax only, not with my Plus II. And Multimax isn't really cheap.... Really not! And I needed three as minimum: one as transmitter, two as receivers.

OK, I searched my HongKong dealer's store at ebay and found a wonderful alternative to MultiMax used as receiver only. It is called RR-32, made by Sekonic (or just labeled by), offers the same possibilities MultiMax does (the same whole functions except transmission!) including quad triggering and so on.
And it is way cheaper than a full transceiver only used as receiver.

Hey, PW guys, take a look at this:

and this:

So, I upgraded to one MultiMax as transmitter and two RR-32 as receivers, on channels 1-4 absolutely compatible with my Plus II (but without quad triggering).

It is so great to work with!!!

I really love it!

This may help you, if you plan to buy some PW radio trigger gear next time.

But be sure to buy the right one: I ordered "Full European Standard versions with CE890 compliance and EU frequencies" because I live in good old germany. In the US, you should not use them because the european models work on US military frequencies (and US models do the same - not for use in europe!!).

I'm sure, there are US frequencies versions, too.

great find! Im in the market for some PW's down the track...

forgive my ignorance but what is the benefit of quad triggering?
Is it the ability to set 4 different strobes etc on 4 different channels and then you can switch between channels to trigger specific strobes?

thanks!

So it is, JD. You can measure up to four single strobes or monolights and the flash meter builds an average ratio by himself. It is great to work with. And with a MultiMax as Transmitter, you can turn on or off every single light (up to four) without moving. OK, this is possible with Plus II also, but without quad triggering.
