I will shoot with two 5Ds now.
The crop factor was annoying, and the color just isn't as nice out of the Mark III for my style of shooting. I have no need for high ISO performance.
The focus issues for AI Servo tracking were really annoying too. The guys at Canon gave me some tips for fixing that, but that doesn't address the crop factor & the color.
AND, I had to upgrade to CS3 to get Adobe to read the Raw files. Adobe is still doing a "best guess" when it comes to reading those Raw files, and it's OK, but there is a shift in the color from Canon's DPP software and Bridge CS3. I wanted the power & control in ACR, but I hated the color Adobe was seeing compared to what Canon's DPP software was seeing. AND, Bridge CS3 is so unstable (more annoyances).
Add all of those up, and my workflow has been shot to $%^& over the past few weeks, and I've been longing for the days of 5D shooting.
At the last few sessions, I did side-by-side tests of the MIII & 5D, and the color out of the 5D was just better. It's like it fits me & my style, where the MIII is fun and pretty, and it does OK, but the 5D is my favorite.
So, now I have two 5Ds (which is cool, I'm happy with that), and there's a store in San Diego that has a Mark III
George's Camera is a GREAT shop! I'll be shopping there from now on instead of B&H. Their prices are pretty close to B&H, and the personal service is something I'll never get from B&H. If you're in San Diego or So Cal, check 'em out.
