Hey,
I'm in the market for a really nice point and shoot. Is there a consensus on which is the best? I'm fine with going to the Canon side for this, so give me all the options!
thanks

crushproof, waterproof, dropproof, freezeproof, basically a tank with a lens that fits in your pocket, I'm drooling over the olympus PS.... 770 and I think they have a new one...
Otherwise I've heard cannon has a nice one, check out the strobist blog

To Nate and Joy:
Since Canon seems like the gem of the day (my DH is wanting me to buy one to chase my 4 1/2 year old twins with) - what is the "refresh rate"?
My current P&S camera takes WAY TOO LONG to refresh between shots, and often I miss "the" shot. Ya know. My husband is the photographer, and I guess I'm used to stealing his Nikon and ripping off a ginormous amounts of shots in 5 seconds.
Thanks for any help you can give me. I'm buying this week! Woohoo!

I like mine so much I reviewed it in my blog. Had it for a year. I love it, family loves it, we take it everywhere.

I just bought the Olympus 770. Went to Alaska and it was our carry around camera. Crush proof, Water proof to 33ft.
Took it zip lining, swimming in the cruise pool, put in pockt, etc....
Other than this one, I looked at the Canon G7 and the fujit 31fd, 40fd. They have very good low light capability.
Watch the smaller cameras with very high megapixel's as their ISO quality goes down a bit. The 31fd has very high ISO, but it is on a 6 meg pixel sensor. G7 went to 10 meg pixel but ISO is not very useful at the higher end.

+1 for the F30, the low noise is priceless in a point and shoot.

I have the Canon SD630 and just got my mom the Canon G7. I am a little jealous that she has the G7 but hey, its my mom and she was hunting for a 'good' P&S but could not afford the price tag for one that had everything she wanted. (I think I am a good daughter for hooking her up, even got her the 2Gig card.) She loves the G7, and for being an older lady she is getting the hang of it pretty quick, and without me to show her since she is in New Mexico.
Oh and I am a Nikon girl, but love the Canon P&S.

Depending of course what's most important to you...faves for me lately have been the Canon G7, SD850IS, Nikon P5000, Nik S50, Fuji F40 (SD compatible)
The Fuji hi ISO on the F40, F20, 30 etc...outperform everyone quite nicely. Of course I love the functionality of the Nikon P5000 teamed up with an SB400!
