I took a few test shots at 5PM yesterday, today's wedding is at high noon.

My test shots Here

I didn't use flash on my test shots. Obviously; I'll need it to compensate for the bright backlighting, but the ceiling is a slightly yellowish mirrored surface - or at least, very color-cast looking. I'm afraid of getting colored faces and whiter lower bodies.

I was thinking of letting the background be totally blown, exposing about 1 stop under, and put the flash on pretty minimal setting. Pointing my 580EX directly straight with the white bounce-card out to avoid my light reflecting off the ceiling.

Advice?

Also; undecided about doing formals on the mid-deck (the wedding nook) or on the top deck (bright bright daylight).

do not put your bounce card out if you are shooting straight ahead. one test shot will show you why...

sorry I don't have any better advice for you- mixed lighting is just what it is. maybe next time a gel to balance the light? good luck! biggrin.gif

Thanks Laura - good call (drrrrr).

I fretted for nothing. The ceiling mirrors were more silver looking so shouldn't be a color cast problem.

Wedding's done, lighting went just fine. Still downloading so we'll see about the photos when they come out. Looked good on the LCD + histograms.

For the ceremony, I put a flash with -3 FEC on one for fill (yet, camera set to -1 exposure on the skin). Pointed straight, no StoFen. Test shots looked good.

My 2nd body had 85 f1.8 at f2.2, ISO 320. Manual - set for exposure to the skin.

Both blew out the background.

Shots are still downloading, but in switching between them, all looks well.

Did formals downstairs (in wedding area), but later got the groups topside to catch the windblown look. Very satisfied.

Thanks for looking. I'll post a couple tomorrow.
